There is a rumour out there that the warranty on the N54 fuel pump is being extended to 10 years, 120,000 miles. This is for model years 07 and 08.

Pump not so costly to replace. What worries me is getting stranded while on a long road trip.

I just brought mine in for service yesterday and asked my sevice advisor about the HPFP. He showed me the paperwork that printed for my car and it stated that they did extend the HPFP warranty to 10 yrs 120,000 miles.

Weird... 3000 miles fuel pump is ok... 9/08 build. I don't understand why these things keep failing even after a redesign!

I will try to determine the part number when I pick the car up. The SA knew right away what it was (as did I) when I told him the symptoms, so the good thing is there was no corporate BS "we'll need to diagnose it to see what the problem is". Leads me to believe that I'll be able to have a conversation with him about it.

Thanks, me too!

I put a yellow sticky note (politely worded) on the IP and also had him note my service printout saying no washing.

Although HDPs no longer require PuMA authorization to replace, you do have to diagnose it to see what the problem is. If a tech throws a pump at a car without any FASTA data or diag codes, BMW is going to backflag them for their labor time and refuse to pay for the pump. There are other component failures that could cause symptoms similar to a bad pump.

Wow, sorry to hear of the bad pump. Maybe you accidentally got some Zaino in your fuel tank I kid, I kid......

Hopefully the dealership will clean the car up for you

Least my 1st one lasted about 15k miles...I got the new 881 part number in mine so fingers are crossed that it will last this time

The fuel pump replacement club is growing..new members everyday and membership is only 40k

Good luck man..I drove mine about 30 miles with no power and would barely idle and my ride is fine.

does the 128 not have a HPFP, or is it just in the 135 or in FI engines, cause no one with a 128 has complained about this just all 135 owners

I understand that the car needs to be diagnosed by the tech at some point. However I've dealt with SAs before who would plead ignorance to very common known issues. I don't know what would be worse....them not being aware of these issues or pretending they don't.

My point is this guy was cool and he agreed with me that it was probably the HPFP.

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck.....

Yes, now that would've been insult to injury! Luckily all they did to the outside of the car was leave lots of greasy handprints (understandable)

UPDATE

It was the HPFP. The dealer had it fixed and back in my hands in about 4 hours. They must be getting really good at replacing these things......lots of practice makes perfect.

Shout out to Tulley in NH for great service. I called them this morning at 9am, they told me to bring the car right in. Gave me a 335xi to drive home. Early afternoon they called me to tell me the car was all set and it was back in my driveway by 2pm for a 2 bucket wash

Service was closed when I picked the car up so I couldn't ask the question about the part numbers. I'll call him on Monday.

Update: My car was built with the updated pump and it failed. It was replaced with the same part number HPFP, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.
