LOL...what is that based on? The suspension is from the M3, so unless you have driven the car, I'm not sure how you can come to that conclusion from pictures...

None of the reviews have mentioned anything about a soft suspension...

i was just listening to this for the 10th time, but now with my etymotic earphones, which are uber sensitive to anything mixed in within a recording. the engine note seems to fit with what the current reviews have complained about. she's not the most beautiful sounding, but i'll take 'er!

A test drive might change this if the opportunity were available.
As you see I'm quoting myself and so I will restate. I am glad BMW is making this car, that is awesome they are making an M car based of the E82 chassis. Its the size of this platform that made me fall in love with it. The 1M from what I've seen has indeed addressed many faults with the 128i/135i in the handling department, as it should. I am glad that from the factory such things as the brakes, suspension, LSD, and a wider track are now on a 1 series. But again in my opinion its that oomph in power that really sets the M car apart from the standard models. What I am saying is that until now there has been sort of a trend in the power difference between an M car and the highest non-M car in terms of HP. E30 M3 had from 192-235 HP where as the 325iS had 168 HP, a difference of 24-67 HP depending on what year and version of M3 you had at the time. E36 M3 had 240-316HP but the 328iS had 190 HP and again with technology the difference has now increased between 50 HP and 126 HP over the top non-M car. E46 M3 had between 333 HP to 355 HP depending what version and US/Euro market while top non-M made 235 HP. That is a difference of 98 HP to 120 HP. E92 M3 makes between 414-444 HP where as the 335iS makes 320 HP. Again the differences are still quite high, 94 HP-124 HP. Why did I post all that, because there has always been a trend between a non-M car and an M in terms of power. As technology has improved, so has the performance and it has grown from a difference of just 24 HP at the least to as high as 94 HP over the course of 4 generations. So my question is in the engine department, how does the 1M compare? It only puts the gap at 40 HP, 20 HP if you factor that you can add another 20 warranted horsepower with the Power Kit. This engine is capable of much more and safely. I am only restating, what everyone pretty much knows, that BMW reduced the potential of this car in terms of engine performance to not intrude on the amazing powerplant which resides within the E9X M3. The handling characteristics of this car will be amazing, I'm sure of it compared to a bone stock 135i, but in terms of power it just doesn't impress me. I'm sorry if I would like to be impressed by engine if they're might be a $10-15k premium over a stock 135i. They're have been many things that BMW has made for the 135i/335i that should have came stock from the factory such as their performance brake, suspension, exhaust, intake, and power kits. The 335iS was that, and it included a DCT as a choice and with a slightly improved body kit from what is already available from BMW Performance. And now we have the 1M with again improved brakes, suspension, transmission, and this time an LSD. But, and this is a big but, this is a car with pretty much the entire Performance catalog thrown in and a few parts from the M3. Now I understand they aren't just any parts, these are parts that would greatly enhance the handling of a normal 1er, but these parts are already available for 1ers. The only difference is that they are fitted from the factory. The 1M in my opinion is for someone who wants all this from the get go and doesn't want to worry about warranty and most likely won't change anything, at least maybe not right away. So if you're that type of person, that's awesome because BMW just answered your prayers. But if you like to make your car personal, and are not too concerned about your warranty, the aftermarket is there and most of the parts out there are from specialists. I like this route, but I don't want parts that are catered to make everyone happy. The 1M is a great car, no doubt about it. It has a lot of things I wish came standard with my car, but in my case my car is paid off. I don't feel like taking a hit trading in my car for one that shares the same engine and a transmission in which I have no choice. The 1M in my opinion is the car that does what I wish my car could do, but with a warranty. I acknowledge this and am fine with that. I respect what BMW has done with the 1M, but I am not impressed and that's my opinion, so take it for what its worth which to you might be nothing at all and that's cool with me. I am not against this car, just think it had more potential and its for that reason I am not impressed. BMW M may stand for Motorsport, but Marketing has a pretty big say on how much of the former goes on when an M car is released. So to everyone I am sorry if I offended you with my opinion and this long response, just wanted to get my point across without seeming like I just see the 1M as a nothing special, because I don't feel that way. I like this car, alot, but not enough to be putting up a for sale sign or making a down payment this early. To those who actually got to drive this car, I envy you because while I remain biased, you actually were able to experience the 1M for what it is. Again when the day comes that I can test drive the latest addition to the M family I will have the wool pulled away from eyes. Specs and maybe a one on one comparison between a 135i and the 1M will make me more excited.

Just how much out of pocket would u have to spend to install a wide body kit, alacantra interior, LSD, 80mil wider track, m3 suspension, zcp wheels, chip, tuning, new headlights, ect + labor on a 135 ?

I'm anxiously awaiting final specs on the 12th, but from what I've seen and heard, I am sold.

You make that sound so nonchalant, like any hap could buy a few parts and have their own 1M. I would like to see you throw the entire performance catalog into your 135i, widen the track and refab the body work for the wider fenders thus required, tune all M3 suspension components to work with the car's setup, slap on a LSD and swap the transmission for the unit in the M3.
You write these long drawn out explanations as to why the 1M is a let down, but you really just put yourself out as someone who is peeved that there's a better version of their car.

Could it be better? Yes, but ANY car could be better.
Using that logic, why doesn't the M3 have FIVE hundred horsepower vs four. To you, that would make it more special right? Or Hell, why doesn't BMW sell the M3 as just a shell pulled via ropes by two M5's?! thats a THOUSAND horsepower!!!

Cars have the limiting factor of a target price point, and for it's expected price point, compared to similarly priced vehicles, it is NOT by any means underpowered (hp/weight). Plus, improving handling is a vastly more complicated process than just tacking on horsepower. And providing a vastly superior HANDLING experience over the base cars is what I think the M-division has always been about first and foremost.

A better car is a better car. Leave your penis issues at home. I don't understand why this forum is trolled with people who can't accept that their car isn't the best thing in the world, and that no other car could possibly be a good car. I've been stalking these forums for a while now, and all I seem to see is :
"my 128i/328i is better than your 135i/335i because turbo's are complicated and theres the minute chance of HPFP"
"my 335i is better than your M3 because it consumes less fuel and who in the world could use that extra power for city driving"
"my 335i is better than your 335is because it costs less"

Can't people just accept that there will ALWAYS be a better car out yours, and just share with each other our enthusiasm and love for ALL BMW's?!

why do people always like hp numbers?

^&*&(*ING morons!

that's all i'm gonna say.

Watch me smoke you all at the circuit with 200hp/2000lb.

BMW M is not about Horsepower. Does it mean much to you if I say a car has 500hp? If it does...maybe I should finish the rest of my sentence.
What if that 500hp was in a 4500lb car? does it make it still attractable? If it does...then you're just like another fat american who needs to go on a diet.

cause the problem is not with the Car. Its you.

M cars are suppose to be balanced machines. Knowing your fat butt...you probably sit in the car and the 50/50 balance of a BMW becomes 70/40.

You know how the Japanese do it right? They have balanced machines. Its not all about POWER, its about overall equation!!

But who really cares..no body cares about balance anyway...its not like you'll understand it in the streets....

Well probably not...but then why are you buying a BMW and worrying about POWER? Go get a SuperSnake Ford instead...loads of power there.

*disclaimer: this is not directly targeted towards any particular member here except for your imagination to hear my rant. Thank you

Indeed, they could have done this better. Hopefully they'll offer a performance diffusor made off real carbon

The bottom tail of the car is about the last place you want to save weight. And I hope you like cleaning if you order the white or black- a working diffuser is better than rain-storms at getting a car dirty...
