BRRacing Harness Bar/Half Cage

Bought this with the intent to install as a stop gap for my racecar before going with a proper welded setup. Decided to bite the bullet and go with the welded setup now.

I will also throw in (for free) the rear carpet section and trunk carpet section you need to cut in order to install the cage in case you plan on stocking out in the future and/or don't want to cut up yours

$1500.

Make sure to read about the fun paralysis that will happen with a A pillar collapse if you want to use one of these with a harness. That shouldn't stop most of your potential buyers, OP, but they should at least know about it.

If you wear a harness and your car rolls with just a rear roll bar, the front part of the roof could still cave in giving you a severe neck / head / spinal cord injury especially if your body doesn't slip down (submarine) which it won't if you have a proper 5 point harness. If you don't, why the hell are you bolting in a cage and replacing the stock seat belts? They will work as well as anything if you pretension them until you start putting in legit safety gear (full cage, seat, harness, driver wears helmet + hans 100% of the time). Anyway the reason it's not as much of a problem with stock seatbelts is your body can move around a bit (a lot really) and not leave the neck head and spinal cord to absorb 100% of the impact.

Your argument is more relevant with a fixed back racing seat. In a severe rollover, Oem seats are designed to break at the hinge allowing for more room in the cabin.

At any rate, if you're running a 5 point harness, a hans device is an absolute MUST as you could have a similar neck injury from a collision at speeds that would equate to a fender bender on the street.

Safety for performance driving at the track is a slippery slope. I prefer an all or nothing approach as addressing only one part of the system leaves you open for risk elsewhere.

Finally, going back to your original post, maybe you should be taking your concerns to Porsche as they include a half cage in their Gt3 RS out of the factory.

This is one of those notions that is backed up by anecdote and not much else.

The argument that a 4/5/6-point harness introduces this risk in a car without supplemental roll-over protection has some arguable credibility but is not universally accepted.

For example, CASC-OR Time Attack rules allow a 4-point with ASM on stock or racing seats without a roll bar. In their view, the benefits of a 4-point harness (particularly when used with a HANS) far outweigh the potential risks even without a roll bar. These belts (Schroth Harnessbelts) are in fact DOT legal for street use.

CASC-OR Time Attack rules require either a roll bar OR a roll cage for 5- and 6-point restraints.

The argument that full cage (not just a roll bar) is necessary when using a 4/5/6-point harness is a new one for me and should be treated with skepticism.
