This car ran 11.91 on drag tires and high 12's stock:

Quote:
The modification list on this particular GT includes a C&L cold air intake, Evolutions’ custom 93 octane tune, American Racing 1 7/8” headers with 3” collector and catted x-pipe, Magnaflow Competition Series 3” catback exhaust, Ford Racing 4.10 gears, Steeda Ultralite lowering springs, and Evolutions’ adjustable panhard bar.
VERY impressive, but still a far cry from running 10's if it were completely FBO.

A KennE Bell blower runs anywhere from $3500 to 7 grand. For $4k you can get the Vishnu kit. Those are similar prices, similar install times, similar extent of modification (the Vishnu kit is a little more involved but close enough). With the Vishnu kit, low 10's with the bmws rear axle and more limited traction are possible, which is pretty close. Alex probably has less than 2 grand worth of power adding mods and the rest are 10 hp or cosmetic mods. People with meth (a bolt on, it just cools the air intake) and no nitrous have gotten into the 11's, just like that modded mustang. Pretty close if you ask me.

Look, I love mustangs and I agree they are performance machines but you really aren't making sense. Maybe you bought the wrong car?

From a roll it wouldnt even be close. A FBO 135i in its best day will trap 128(ish) in the low 11's. Thanks for playing
I didn't kno a Kenny bell was a bolt on

If that's your opinion, why don't you buy an Iroc Z and put some money into it

because of the rest of his post.

a junkyard mexican 302 with a big fat turbo on it thrown into a 40 year old truck is going to drag faster than a bolt-on 135, that doesn't mean I'm going to drive one.

Mustang = apple
BMW = orange

What sums it up for me is, one sits in (on) a Mustang; one wears a BMW. At least with the sport seats I do...

I own an '11 GT. I love how linear the powerband is, but I hate the handling and interior. It feels like I'm in a tupperware container every time I get in the car. As far as handling, I've done springs and shocks. The car feels extraordinarily unsettled in hard turns; it's amazing that the track pack GT was 0.02 seconds behind the m3 on the road course. Road and Track must've had one hell of a driver mod.

If you like straight line racing, don't care about refinement, and just want to hear the wailing of a v8, then the mustang is definitely for you. If you like taking curves and enjoy superior refinement, then stick with bmw. Personally, I'll probably end up getting rid of the GT and end up in a '13 135i within the next 4-6 months.

On another note: with any car, how fast you go is directly proportionate to how deep your wallet is. Get something you enjoy and don't worry about being the fastest out there, because there's always someone faster. My 2 cents...

This x 1000. Its easy to get caught up in the whole thing and ooze that overconfidence. Sure my 135 will eat 90% of whats on the road, but theres always something faster. Just enjoy the ride.

Btw, yesterday morning I barely walked a 5.0, and I was actually about to post a thread on it, because it was a tough race and afterwards he pulled up next to me and asked me what I had in it. I told him... then he replies "Well, I only have intake and exhaust. COME AT ME BRO"

You cannot compare the boss and 135i in performance

My 135i costs me about $4-5g more than I would have spent on the Boss with the performance being similar. Well worth it for a car you live with every day. Seats, stereo, steering feel, ride etc. all superior with the BMW makes it worth every penny. The extra $50 per month or whatever I would spend on something useless anyway.
The boss is faster then the m3 don't see how the 135I measures up in anyway to the boss in pure performance

Why compare a Boss 302 to a 135i? The Boss is a dedicated track car in mind with all the creature comforts left out. You can compare it to a 1M but the Boss is still faster than it.....there was a big argument about that for a while since the 1M guys complain that cheaper Mustang beat their 1M at VIR. But at least they can say their's has all the creature comforts and ride's better.

A regular 5.0 will still beat the 135i in a straight line since they already have 120+hp over us stock. And they do run down the 1/4 in the 12.7-12.8 range, completely stock as we go mid 13s, stock. I wanted to get a 5.0 but the dealers wouldn't work with me, thinking me and my wife were just a young couple with no money. But I had a better experience at the BMW lot. Anyways, in terms of performance the 5.0 will always outperform the 135i mod for mod but on the road course/autoX then the 135i should be able to close the gap and be a competitor. 5.0 mustang's and 135i car's weigh almost the same with the 135i being a tad less, maybe 100-150 lbs.

And to the comment about comparing drag results of a LRA to a IRS....04-06 GTOs, with their horrible IRS, are in the 8s/9s/10s as well as the ZL1s with their Magnetic Ride Suspension which is a IRS setup and they are in the 9st too. So don't make it seem like IRS is that bad at drag racing. Oh and isn't Supra's in the 7s with their old school IRS? Just saying.
