Tyres and Alignment

The time has come for my front tyres to be thrown into the scrap heap and replaced. I want to go the non-RFT route, so what is the general consensus on the best tyres to purchase.

Also, the alignment of the front tyres from the factory is atrocious. The edges are shredded just by going around any corner. Does anyone know of a decent workshop in Brisbane who knows about setting up a 135i properly?

this is going to turn into a "ask one hundred people, get one hundred answers" thread.

Given the sort of driving you've described to me in the past, and what I've seen of you, I'd suggest something similar to what I've done.

I can vouch for Pirelli PZero Rosso's or Hankook S1 Evo's. The Hankook's are as good as the Pirelli IMHO and a damn sight cheaper.

ContiSport Contact 3's, Dunlop Direzza Star spec, Michelin PilotSport have all had honourable mentions too. The price on some of these is a nice skiing holiday however.

Firestones for me have been utterly fantastic. Replaced them late last year, but far out, there has been practically no wear on them and they have the best dry grip i've ever experienced.

The wet grip under acceleration leaves something to be desired, but grips well and tracks fine going through puddles. ie: 5 channel, no aquaplaning.

Thanks Matt.

Any idea on the wheel alignment place? There's no point putting new tyres on with the ordinary alignment that comes out of the factory.

It's a small drive to get there, but the best place I've been to in a while was Bob Jane at Maroochydore, who Sparoz referred me to.

I'd imagine they'd set it up to standard factory alignment, which as I've found out tends to destroy the outsides of the front tyres and shred the insides of the rears.
