Smart Key Part Number
I know there have been other discussions of the BMW Smart Key but has anyone ever verified which of the multiple part numbers is actually the 1 series smart key?
I've seen at least these 3 numbers... 6986583-04 6986583-03 6986583-01

It depends on the year, and whether you have comfort access or not. These have to be special ordered at the dealer and you have to produce identification to prove that you own the VIN. My 2008 without comfort access was 66-12-0-4313-690

Mine is a 2009 W/O comfort access. I was hoping to snag one off eBay since I can be in car coded. I still have the 'valet key' for it so would not need to order that.

What exactly is a "Smart Key" ?
You mean the key fob? Or the dummy key (that sits in teh glove box) that comes on three series to start the car incase your keyfob is lost? I was told that is not available for our 1er's. ??? |

Yes, Smart Key = Key Fob. 'Dummy Key' is built in.... but is now really door key... since it can't start car. In my case it's also a trunk key since I still have a trunk keyhole.
