Burning oil?
My sister has a 2011 128i with about 11,000 miles and her car has been burning about 1-2 quarts of oil every 2,000-3,000 miles. Took it to bmw and they all said this is normal... but i cant really believe that. So should i be worried?

I think it is normal. My 135i also went thru a liter or so of oil at that mileage. I would just change the oil and keep an eye on it.
You might (once the engine is fully warmed up) take the revs up to 5K or so.... then let the engine brake down in revs until 3K, then repeat a few (5)times. That should break in the rings - IF they aren't already seated. IF you are going to go with BMW ridiculous OCI then you might have to add a liter or so of oil. The longer the oil is in there the more thinner it gets due to being watered(diluted) down by fuel. I personally change my oil every 5K miles. G.L. Dackel |

2010 128 i no oil added
I have 11700 on my 20170 128i and have not needed any oil. What you are experiencing is not normal for a modern engine. Except for a Rotary ; )

once in a while, I had to add 1L oil before going scheduled oil change.
and that is what I heard from my SA..... especially when the car is new, it burns oil faster. if the oil measures set at half the gauge, its thirsty for oils. |

While most manufacturers still cling to the line that burning 1 quart per 1,000 miles is "normal", I've yet to own a BMW which burned more than 1/2 quart in 8,000 after break-in.
Get it checked out. Tom |

Okay yeah i didnt think this was normal.. Ill have her bring it in to get it looked at. Sadly since its a lease she doesnt change her oil every 5,000 and instead waits till the 15,000.

You can google for it and you will find a lot cases when CCV - oil separator is clogged up and/or if you are living in area where in winter goes to negative temperature it can freeze and then your engine oil is going up through intake to your cylinders which can cause hydrolock.
