The service advisor did not know about this either but, the mechanic found it in the system. Idle fluctuating at stop. Service bulletin 12-15-14.
Interesting. So did a new TSB came out in August of '14? Because when I saw the original TSB, it came out in April of '13. That's why I assumed when they did the VANOS recall in April of '14 for me, it would have contained the fix. Now I am not so sure and this could shed some lights on why I am still seeing this issue right now...

I might be able to help.

It's crazy that the dealer couldn't do it themselves.

The E9X DCT control unit (TCU) is the GS40 module. Assuming that the E8X uses the same TCU, you should be able to reset your adaptations with Tool32.

Use the job steuern_adaptation_zuruecksetzen in C:\EDIABAS\ECU\DKG_90.PRG:

My car is bone stock, and recently, I have had a couple of incidents with the engine surging, RPM bouncing up and down at idle. The car also stalled.

I'm not too worried about it, and I'll have the dealer check it out at the next service interval.

Fixed!

I simply put in 6oz of Sea Foam injector cleaner with a 10 gallon fillup......when the gas tank was down to a quarter tank I noticed there was no (0) hesitation or lurching! Ha ! And the nearby shop wanted to do a walnut shell blast for $800.

not 100% fixed as I thought, more like 50%. The car started back with with rough idle and lurching at low speeds (under 7mph) when I filled up the gas tank. Taking it to the dealership on monday (Classic BMW, Plano TX) armed with lots of good data from this site.

I'm revisiting this thread with more detail.

My car has the DCT, is bone stock, and I use Sam's premium gas. It has around 22K miles.

The car always lurches off from idle when I step on the gas. If I crawl along in traffic, I can count on the engine surging. Sometimes it stalls. If I stop for a light, the engine sometimes has a slight hesitation. It idles around 700 RPM. It has stalled a couple of times too.

So I have similar problems as the most of you do. I also have an additional one with the DCT. If I start off slowly and the DCT shifts up a gear or two then I have to slow down, the DCT shifts down into 1st with a loud clunk!

If I keep this car, I'll get the extended warranty just for peace of mind!

In the shop.......

My BMW tech at the dealership is telling me that its a coil, and warranty is replacing it. I get the car back Monday, we'll see if that did the trick! I have a loaner 328, but really am going to miss my car over the weekend. Funny thing, the loaner car lurched a little as I parked in my garage. Nothing like my car, but it was certainly there. The 328 only has 3000 miles on it.

Dealership replaced the coil, and fixed a oil gasket leak and a trans. gasket leak. $2100

However, same problem still exists. Getting SIB update today. And I will look into a PPK or JB4 upgrade if the problem persists. I've read on this forum those 2 upgrades help with the problem

I inquired about the dealership updating my SIB, but that actually advised against is because it can blow a module. Go figure

I'm not suggesting that it is the fix for everyone but after I bought my 2011 w/ DCT which already had the SIB done... I had the PPK1 software flash done. It is much smoother and linear throttle control and smooth idle. It doesn't lurch or stall but the throttle is very touchy in that I have to be careful from a stop. A Light touch from a stop is needed for I light up the traction control.

Wait really? I didn't know you can run both.

To be honest I'm not even sure if I'm running JB4 ISO, I bought it second-hand

Go back and tell them they are full of it! SIB has completely cured the rough idle at stops and low speeds. I'm crossing my fingers that it lasts more than 2 weeks (I've seen a few posts where owners comment that it only seems to last 2 weeks). If this doesn't do it, I'm going with the PPK flash from "wildcatcrazy".

Agree. Do it. Mine is still working after a year. Makes all the difference in the world.

Just for everyone's info, the latest PPK flash will cure this, plus give you the benefits of having the PPK. But, the car must be 02/2012 or older since the newer models require a FSC from the dealer.

Even if you're not eligible for the PPK due the production date, we could flash the DME with updated software to correct the issue if the dealer won't do it for you.

Does anyone know if you can ask the dealer to do the SIB even you are out of the service warranty? My in service date was October of '11, so I assume my service warranty expires on Oct of '15. I complained about this specific issue in my last service appointment of June of '15, but they didn't do anything about it. Had I known there was a SIB on this, I would push pretty hard for them to look into this.

BTW, how has this not been treated as a recall? The car would frequently stalls at a intersection or on the road, that's a pretty scary scenario if you ask me. Just not enough volume of 135i to not cause a recall?

That varies from dealer to dealer. You need to specifically request for it. I've gotten quotes all over the place. Some dealers told me they need to charge an initial $150 fee just to scan the car/diagnose, and then the software update itself would be anywhere between $120-$200
