You could try this:
In the module KOMBI, is it possible you have this option CC_TEMPERATURWARNUNG "?, You put it in "aktiv" The reports seem to indicate this works on e46 3 series but not e90s. Seems worth a try. The temperature warning may or may not be in Kombi for us, you might have to look around. Jim

Kombi is one of the software modules in your car. You need a cable to connect your OBD 2 port to your laptop. On your laptop you need NCSExpert. Running NCSExpert you can extract any of the software modules, modify them, and reload them. It is not hard but you have to be careful. I spent about $100 on the cable. The software is "free".

I don't think you can turn off the data recorder but it might be possible. The software gives you a lot of access but there is very little documentation.
