How much down when you order?

When you ordered your 1, how much $$'s did you put down upon initial order?

$1,000 has been the customary deposit for the new BMWs I've ordered including my 128i.

I think mine was $1000 like Tom's. It's up to your dealer.

When I first confronted my dealer about the 1M, I put a $500 deposit.
My down payment was $9000 when I signed the paperwork.

Yep, $1000 to place the order has been typical of several cars that I have ordered over the years.

Same for me. Noticed though that the dealer never charged the card I gave them though.

My dealership required no money down. Just had to agree on price, sign some initial paperwork.

I put down a little over 20k. Enough to hit my $350/mo payment goal.

$1,000 initially to place the order, an additional $6,500 to cover what the loan didn't.

$500 refundable. I actually had it refunded once and then placed another deposit down a year and a half later when I actually bought the car.

Thanks everyone. I meant how much did you put down to actually get the vehicle initially ordered not necessarily what the total amount down was.

I just want to know what was reasonable for when I order.

The bottom line is that it varies by dealer. VW asked me for $250 - then tried to keep it when I cancelled.

It really is up to the dealer. I was prepared to make a $1,000 deposit (and I did), but as it turned out, the dealer would have been happy with $500

Dealer near my house wants 10%.
He also won't entertain offers through email, I need to be there to "present" the offer in person. This despite the fact that I've already been there 3 times.
