I noticed that the list price of the 135i coupe has INCREASED from $72,800 to $74,700 recently (I think it might have been on the 1st of March). Given that this is contrary to most other car brands passing on the 5% tariff saving (and in some cases the high AUD) does anybody know whether any additional standard equipment has been included other than the new N55 (?) dual-scroll single turbo engine?

Maybe its a result of them selling all the cars they can get. At least that's the sense I have. It wasn't easy finding a car back in November when I got mine.
Since then all the BMW promo offers I've seen specifically exclude the 1 series. |

Isn't maximizing the value of your product one of the first fundamental of business and would you expect a company like BMW to do anything other than what they do with the prices?

I believe the high prices we pay here are the combination of high taxes, and high margin that BMW/Merc/Audi Australia are charging as there are enough people who are willing to pay a premium for their products. Traditionally, the tall puppy syndrome has allowed successive governments to apply a luxury car tax/envy tax and the so called battlers would say it is only right to tax the "rich". KRudd had just taken the envy tax to another level. Anyway, I digressed!

I checked our prices here against Europe's and they are actually about the same. It is that the US car prices are extremely cheap.

UK prices: VW passat R36 34030 pound, BMW 135 convertible 33460 pound Oz prices: VW passat R36 $64990 ,BMW 135 conv $80200 As you can see, the 135 convertible is cheaper than the R36 in UK, but here, we are paying over 15k more due to the "BMW premium". I can only assume that BMW Australia has a much higher profit margin than VW Aust, and they can do that because we are suckers for these premium brands. |
