new weird sound coming from front right of engine
Last night I pulled the car out of the garage to get the garbage cans out and heard a new noise. There was a "whoom whooom" sound coming from the front right of the engine. I popped the hood, and could hear it clearly, but thought maybe it was just a pump or something I had never noticed before.
This morning, at a stop light, I could still hear it over the radio. I cant believe that for how loud it is, I would have just never heard it before. Any ideas on what it might be, or anyone experience the same? The "whoom whoom" just keeps repeating.

I've been hearing noises from my car as well and I can't work out what it is. Kinda like a whirring noise or a whoom whoom noise as you pointed out. I've noticed it occurs mostly when I start the car and it's completely cold or after I come home and turn it off after a spirited run. No idea what is though.

I think you need to provide more information like,
1)does the noise change as the engine rpm's change? 2)does the noise occur while vehicle is in motion only? Right side of engine is turbo/exhaust.. you could be hearing turbos spooling etc. doubt as if you had turbo go out as I've not heard a single problem with the turbos themselves. Is the car modded at all, or completely stock (when I got newest firmware, and on my friends jb3'd car you could hear turbo spool and/or wastegate differences almost immediately.) |

More info:
Noise seems to stay consistent regardless of rpm's. The noise is there with the car at idle (sitting in the driveway, at a red light) but couldnt detect it for sure over the sound of the engine while accelerating from the light. This led to a 25 minute drive on the hwy to work, and by then it had ceased. Car is completely stock, and just over 31,000km. Ill see what happens when I start it after work, and pay close attention to any noises as I drive, and report anything else I find.

I hear this sound a long time ago and I made a thread here. Mine usually comes in 3 pulses, the first two are faint, while the 2nd and 3rd one are usually the most noticeable. I sounds like a G35 (or whatever Nissan w/ that same V6) revving nearby.
When it happen, I can feel a faint vibration through my brake pedal since I usually only notice it when I'm idle on a red light. I've tried to record it inside the cabin, but my crappy ass phone mic couldn't pick it up. I've also notice it a few times when the car is just cruising at low speed. so I think this sound doesn't only there while idle, just that the engine noise covered it. Also, it usually comes up AFTER the car is all warmed up. I've scanned my car using BT scanner many times, no code has thrown yet. |

Yes mine normally comes in 3 pulses as well. It's a hard noise to pick up, you notice it mostly whilst at idle but it's definately there. I'll try and get a recording of it sometime soon. Btw my car is completely stock.
