I Drive sales?

For e90s - where customers have a choice - what percentage of 3 series vehicles include I-Drive??? Anybody know??? BMW NA probably won't tell.

If e90buyers had a choice, what percentage of buyers would choose to have run flat tires and no spare? My guess is about the same number as above.

My guess from the sales where I am at is about 80% dont get it. You have to get Nav to get it and some people looking at a 3 dont need nav or they dont feel like its worth $2000. Its easier to sell on 60k "5" then it is on a 40k "3" its as simple as that.

I will see if I can find the link but right before the debut of the e90 Helmut Panke said in an interview that they expect less than 10% of all new 3 Series will be sold with iDrive and are gearing production and procurement thusly.

The reasoning was that BMW had to get the new 3 Series right, thus a choice.

Obviously their internal research has told them that most buyers don't really like iDrive [not to say they don't like or want Sat/NAV in general] and that given a choice most will opt out.

5 series -- iDrive is standard (navigation is not)

3 series -- I like iDrive but don't like the design of the screen. Think it clutters up the dash. Also, it will become obsolete in the life of the car unless it can be easily upgraded -- which will not happen. Screens like these in cars are somewhat of a fad, much like digital instrumentation was in the 80's. Remember the C4 Corvette's instrument panel?

I don't know about the sales and stuff, but I love my iDrive and I love the navigation, everything is so much easier to use, and the knob is in the best place to control everything, you don't have to reach over and find stuff, everything is right there and simple.

hmmmmmmmmmmm, as far as i know in my country (oman), no 3 series has IDrive or run-flat tyres, for me i think its nice if someone has enough money to buy 520i but prefers 330i with Idrive n all the accessories.
unfortunatly, most of the people in my area will call this guy (crazy), driving a 5er with 15" wheels n nothing from the inside is better than driving 3 series with 18" n all the accessories (n even if it has ACS body kit)

thats too bad, but i would take the 330i IDrive if i had enough money...

yea on I-Drive and runflats

Personally, I love new technology and am willing to accept that it will (and need to)be continually refined. I had my doubts on the run flat tires, but those fears have been allayed. The ride is firm but not stiff and since I live in the northeast, I will always be near a dealer or tire shop.

All 3ers worldwide come with run-flats as standard equipment. Worldwide includes your country.

I have yet to see an E90 on the lot w/ I-Drive on it so I'm willing to bet it's primarly gotten by people who order the car. If given a choice on RFT's, I would pass and get non-RFT's and a spare. I'm willing to bet most others would as well based on the feedback of members on the forum in regards to the ride quality of the RFT's.

I like my RTF's. Provide a good safety feature if tire pops at speed, and since they are firmer they keep the wheels from being destroyed on pot holes.

I LOVE my iDrive. Sure it could be faster and not have its stupid boot screen, but these are just small problems in the grand sceme of all that it provides. The time I will save from not having to look up and print directions over the next 4 years will probably be worth $2k in addition to all the other features it provides.

Hate RFT's and iDrive. Would go with the spare and an external Nav unit - the new tomtom 910 is amazing.

Id prefer regular tires with a spare, but the Idrive is pretty neat.

If there was a standard screen with buttons that could be alrite also.

-I'd always order i-drive if it optional
-i'd avoid the rft;s if I could
-I wish the cpu could updated with BMW updated via USB. It seems archaic that we can't do this.

i like the i drive its makes the dash more sophisticated, the only thing i dont like rft is the price and maintenance which is quite expensive compare to normal tires
