Long trip ahead.. should I change oil/filter ?

My maintenance minder displays 11k miles, but I've put close to 6k miles since the last oil change. I'll be driving to South Florida (around 3k miles roundtrip) and was wondering if I should change the oil/filter before or after the trip. I've always done 3k mile oil changes on previous cars, but I don't know if that would be ok for this engine (was planing on doing them @7500 miles intervals). Anyway, any input appreciated.

Do it when you get back. It will take a beating for those miles so no need to change what is good oil. Fyi though, I change every 3000 regardless.

It is just a precaution to protect a fairly large investment that I plan to keep for some time.

OP - IF it was my car I would change the oil. New oil is good oil. Personally I do not think you can change the oil too much.

Buy the oil and filter from your BMW dealer and do it yourself. OR have your dealer change the oil & filter. Btw... I do 6K mile OCI.

I plan on keeping my car for a long, long time.

Thanks for all the advice. I ordered a UOA kit, but it probably won't arrive in time, so I'll do it when I return.
