there were no 325 left in stick, so I got me a 330 casue it was available. Only jackasses need to prove their self-worth by putting other people down.

Yesterday I saw six E90's on the road, all of them were 325's and one was de-badged. I know I said I am going to keep my 325i badge but I was doing some thinking last nite and I might debadge...I am not completely sure yet but if I do, here is why:

I am not considering de-badging for the "cleaner" look. The reason I am thinking of doing it is b/c I have been seeing tons of E90 325's on the road lately esp. in the So Cal area, and sometimes it pisses me off b/c most of the 325's I have seen (more like 95%) have been the stripped, base model. You know they only bought the cheapest 325 possible with no options (i.e. no Xenons, stock rims, no metallic paint, etc.) just to have the BMW name (there is nothing wrong with that, but by the same token there is nothing wrong with me wanting to set my car apart from other 325's)

If I spent an extra $3k-$4k on altering the look of my 325i to the way I want it to look, and by de-badging it if people want to wonder whether my car is the new 5 series or an M3 (and people have thought my car was all of those models even with the badge ) why shouldn't I? I think some 325i owners have done it for those reasons but just don't want to admit it.

My 325i and many others ones I have seen on this forum are a lot nicer than the basic 325 and if we spent all that extra money, might as well let people guess and decide for themselves which model it is we have. After all, if you can't tell why should I?

One must remember that some of us 325 owners paid more for our cars than people who buy stripped 330's just for the 330 logo. I choose the 325 because I could option it up the way I liked it. I don't think there is this great divide between the 325 and the 330. They're pretty much the same car with the same engine, drivetrain, chasis, etc., but the 330 has a few more "options" (bigger wheels, brakes, intake, etc.) It would be like me bashing a 330 owner because they didn't get the premium package. Be happy that we're all driving BMW's, and stop scoffing over which options are best...

I would bet that HALF of all the folks who bought a 330i (including many who post on this list) chose to buy it ONLY for the badge!

It's the perceived prestige of the BMW brand and the "I spent more than you, which means I'm better than you" attitude which is the real debate here.

I agree, I like the black trim better then the chrome! I even like the lack of tips on the 325i imo it looks better then the chrome ones on my car.

I don't think the chrome trim looks ugly or anything. I think it looks great, especially on a black car like yours. I just think it blends in better with my SG which is tinted and has black lining around the windows. If I had a 330i, I would keep the chrome trim.

Plus you 330i owners get the chrome grill/tips standard which looks a lot better in my opinion.

I couldn't have said it better myself but yet some people fail to understand this...there is this mentality among some 330i owners (you know who you are ) that 325i owners were too cheap to go the extra mile and get the 330i. Yea, maybe if the 325i was a stripped, no options, base model then maybe, but not when someone has a nicely-equipped 325i that runs in the mid-to-upper 30's. If they can afford a $35k car, I don't think a few thousand more is going to set them back by a lot. Plus a lot of them end up spending that much anyways on modding it to their liking.

Yes, that probably is true to an extent...I mean I guess I can understand where some of the 330i ppl/ are coming from. If I spent an extra $4k-$6k I would obviously want some kind of acknowledgment of that. And it does really come down to price - even though I spent nearly $40k on my 325 all things said and done, I still would be looking at spending another $3-4k to get it in the exact configuration I wanted as a 330i. Otherwise, I would have gotten a 330i in a heartbeat.

The issue definitely goes deeper beyond who badged their car and who didn't as you said...no one really cares about who did and who didn't, but rather it is the motivation behind it (i.e. "oh, what is he/she trying to hide?" "he must be trying to pass his 325 off as a 330i," "what a poser" and such comments).

I just find it amazing that people are so passionate over a damn badge going by the number of responses/views on this thread. well, once the 328i and the 335i come out, I guess everyone will be debadging anyways.

I just debadged my car yesterday using some dental floss. Man, I had to pry those freaking numbers off and my number "5" broke in half too. oh well...

If anyone plans on debadging, make sure you use a heat gun or hairdryer to warm up the glue first (I didn't), o/w you will risk breaking the number(s).

The dealership debadged mine for me. I asked them to do it while they were detailing the car after purchase.

how about just rearranging the letters, just to confuse people.
352i, 303xi, 253i, 033xi

Ok, bad idea, but I would laugh if I saw it.

I think that's hilarious. - Whatever it takes to piss these tight-asses off!
I think you should put whatever you want on the back of your car.

I think you can get a new one for about $20 bucks online. Even if you try to put it back on though, it won't look the same unless you know exactly where it used to be.

I was all trying to measure the location just in case I change my mind again, heh.

Just pull up to another car at the dealer and eye it! I really dont care, when I sell it they can deal with it if they want the badge.

I got a new badge

HAHA I am going order 3 sixes 666i :rocks:

I don't know, people might think you have the new 6-series.

All jokes aside, must admit, it does look cleaner and more subdued w/o the badge. Me likey.
