Rear defrost doesn't work along the top

I searched here and in the general 1 series forum but found nothing. The rear window has defrost wires running horizontally all the way up the window. There is a break about 5 inches from the top then 3 more rows of wires at the top (or something like that). On my car these top 3 rows above the break don't work. Anyone else experience this?

Do you have tinted windows?

Hadn't noticed, but I'll pay attention next time I use the rear defroster.

Perhaps the top wires are the radio antenna??

Hmm could be I guess. Didn't look that close at them this morning. What's that shark fin thing on the back for though if not the radio?

Also, no tint on my car.

I figured it's for satellite radio, but maybe it does both.

Guess I could look at parts diagrams and figure it out.

EDIT: Just did a little research. The shark fin is for satellite. The radio antenna are in the rear windshield.

Mine works the same way-- no defrosting at the top-- I think it must be radio related, but not sure.

Well mystery solved. A bit strange but ok.

I'm just happy I didn't make and appointment with the dealer and go through that rigmorale only to find out its not a problem!

Thanks guys.

The shark fin is for satellite radio and i believe also phone integration - which is used to boost your signal when you cradle the phone in the car. Radio antenna is on the glass along the top.

Word. I'm thinking that even in Charlotte (with a garage). Helps that I work from home most of the time as well.
