Why the 1-Series
*Because it's smaller than a 3-Series.
*Because it's lighter than a 3-Series. *Because it still has a back seat for when I need to take the bambino in my car. *Because it's RWD. *Because it has 300hp and 300 lb ft of torque. *Because it has 6-caliper fixed Brembo brakes. *Because even if it's not as sporty as an M3, it's still all the sports car I can realistically handle. *Because BMW seems to have gotten the ride/handling balance exactly right. *Because it comes standard with (almost) everything I want and nothing I don't. *Because it only costs $37,700 equipped the right way. *Because Sparkling Graphite Metallic is a sweet paint color. *Because Black Leatherette will look good and last forever. *Because it has LED tail light accents. *Because it has Xenon headlights. *Because the stock 18" wheels are gorgeous. *Because it looks exactly like a small BMW should. *Because it was engineered by BMW. *Because it's built in Europe and not North America. *Because it doesn't look like a rice rocket. *Because it doesn't have standard power seats. *Because it has 4 years free maintenance. *Because it's the most successful Bangle-esque design to date. *Because the Glacier Alumium trim looks awesome. *Because it doesn't have split dual exhausts, which are dumb on an I6 engine. *Because run flats can be replaced. *Because it's safe as houses. *Because I can get SIRIUS radio. *Because BMW has said they will offer an aftermarket factory LSD. *Because the turbo can be tuned for big numbers. *Because it looks fast and sporty without looking OTT aggressive. *Because it's as real world fast as any car needs to be. *Because it will still be fun on a track. *Because I can get it with an M Sport steering wheel. *Because they don't make em like this every day and, with oil at $100 a barrel, they may not be makin' em like this for long. ...Did I mention that the small size is still just a huge part of the reason why I'm enamored with this car? |

staying anxious
(It's like a long distance relationship with a beautiful woman. All I've got is pretty pictures and the occasional email update. Sometimes it's hard to keep the flame alive. )
Yeah, but think how horny you'd be after six months, and finally getting to see her? Thats how you'll feel hopefully. 1ster didn't say my reason, though he captured 99.9% of the best reasons. I have only one...I currently my fifth BMW, a 3 series convertible, so before they got big and fat...I live in a Craftsman style home, with a little bitty garage, my 3 fits without about two inches to spare, so the new 3's don't fit. I was close (too close) to buying an Audi A3 when I picked up an article on the 1. Its like BMW read my mind, they knew they needed a car for small garage people...its like an answered prayer.. (while thats all true, the real reasons for me, match 1sters...its just fortunate it fits in my garage...) |

For me the reasons why i might buy the 135i is...
Evo X is 3517 lb unless we get the 3344 lb JDM weight....I f we do get the 3344lb then i will buy X. STi has gone hatchback which looks cheap. |

i just sold my 05 sti...and after driving a 1 series earlier this year in germany (the hatch version) there is no comparison of fit and finish, as well as power and handling. My sti had plenty of raw power and prowess of the track and auto x's, but no comfort or nibbleness compared to any bmw. Compared to evos (my brother has a 400whp evo) and although nimble, the interior is lacking...something that will not change for the X. In the end you wither own a rattle box jdm car...or a refined german machine...your choice....it shouldnt come down to weight or power it should be like choosing a fine wine. |
