Question Time for new rubber

I have searched the forums and found that the Dunlop star specs are def well respected tire. I have been looking at:

1. Dunlop star specs
2. Toyo T1R
3. Hankook

Concerns that the Toyo's are for lighter cars (miata's, E30's etc). However, at the track i see lots of Toyo's. Hankooks tested in the Car and Driver used the EU version of the Hankooks which are much different than the ones we get in the US. Just looking for recommendations on summer/track tires. I go to the track throughout the summer and have an extra set of wheels for winter/rain season here in Portland,OR.

any insight and/or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

There are good Toyo tires, the T1R is not one of them. I had them on my M Coupe and they were awful on the track, pretty bad in the rain, and not very good in the dry. I wasn't even too sad when one blew out, it gave me an excuse to remove all four and change to PS2's.

Really? Where did you see that? Why would C&D test Euro spec tires?

I read that doing a google search and there where a few threads discussing this, so obviously this could be false information..but had me wondering.

I'm going to Dunlops. the guys over at TiC who's redline time attack STi won the street class used those tires. They are working on a project 335i and plan on putting dunlops 245 40 18 fronts and 265 35 18 rears.

That's just the recomendation they gave me for tire's when I had them tune my suspension, and they're not in the tire selling business.

I believe the ps2 are an all around better tire but then the dunlops are well respected and a bargain. I am pretty sure I will flip for the dunlops myself in the next few months . it seems they offer the best of all worlds, tenacious dry grip, decent rain traction and good wear at a bargain price. seems like a no brainer to me

I have the Hankkoks on my car right now. I've used them for two autox so far and they have been pretty good. Grip is good with them and I've found them to be pretty consistent. I can usually feel when they are breaking loose which is excellent, however there is very limited audible warning they are loosing traction. They start to lose some traction as they heat up (and I ran them in 95+ temps), but it is not terrible. I read alot of great reviews about the tires and I like them so far. I liked the higher treadwear rating vs the z1, and a slightly lower cost.

That being said, I've never ever heard a bad thing about the direzzas and if you want the ultimate street tire for the track that is probably the ticket.

Hankook RS3s for street tires. They're the real deal.

We were running different brand tires through the first half of the time attack season and kept coming in 2nd and 3rd in our class. Last event, we ran the Hankook RS3, won 1st in our class, took 1st overall in street class beating out even the AWD cars and set a new track street tire record.

decent reviews but the size options available doesn't work for 99.9% of us

What about the Toyo R1R? They come in 225 and 255 sizes that would work for our stock wheels.
