"i don't have tires"

"gas is expensive"

These are what i usually get

I don't get how you can drive a BMW and complain about those....

you should tell them to get in their cars and bring them to the track to see what they can do in their cars !

No, they all have modded Hondas. They like to race on the freeways and admittedly, I've destroyed them a few times.

However, I introduced them to Ortega Highway, and they liked it, but 2 of them drove about 20-25 MPH the entire way citing that it was scary. I didn't race through the highway, but I maintained the flow of traffic.

I think they like the idea of going to the track and racing, but the actuality scares them.

The most annoying bit is that 2 of them were talking about how much they want to go, up until this weekend when I reminded them it's just 20 days away. One remained silent, and the other just said something came up (but won't mention what).

I don't see how it's scary to come on the track but not scary to go through canyons/freeways.....

I find freeway "racing" to be scarier (and more dangerous) than being on the track

3-4 times per year, wish I could go more.

If you're free the 24th, come and check it out. $10 at the gate entrance fee.

Honestly you can come run it stock and have a GREAT time

I took my z4 out when it was 100% stock (runflats and all)

and now I take it with just wheels and tires + brake fluid

Stock brakes, stock suspension, stock engine, stock intake etc

I just put EC7s+Hankook RS3s and changed the brake fluid for Motul RBF 660.

It could use pads, but I have fun driving it as is; plus, this way it's more driver skill that determines my time versus the mods! lol

Honestly, I wish I got into this before modding my car. I would've modded differently.

"It's a lot more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow."

I would've invested in wheels and tires first, something I still need. I'm still on stock run flats, and desperately need the upgrade...ironically, I'll have enough money after the 24th.

Power mods I don't really feel are as necessary, though they do make gunning it on the straights fun.

Run stock, see how it reacts, then mod.

I'm not too experienced with 1ers, but I would say do at least KW V2s, at least.

Would the Pilot SS tires hold up at the track?

I'm running stock run flats and they do horribly but hold up. When I say horribly, I mean you can feel them not gripping in all aspects of driving. When you accelerate hard, you feel wheel slip, when braking hard you can just feel the wheels not braking as hard as actual tires should, and when cornering they just don't hold as well and that's really the most disappointing part.

I'm using KWv2 and am quite happy, though I think H&R would be fine if that's what you wanted to use. I'm going to say persian54 has the right of it though, run stock first, and then decide on what you want to do.

Personally, I'd like more track time more than anything else (experience and practice does more for you than you think). For my car, I need new tires soon, so new tires and wheels make sense. I'm going to go with a squared set up, and probably buy a fifth wheel to bring as a spare.

I got an upgraded intercooler, which helps keep oil temps down, but in the future I'd also like to put in an actual oil cooler. I wanted Advan, but the price is a little too high. I have ER's intercooler, and their shop is local. The price is lower, and they have a louvre covering the back to protect from damage. I think for the price, it's the best option.

I have a COBB AP, but honestly, it's unnecessary for me. The car is plenty fast in stock power, and I'm not the greatest racer out there. If you have the extra cash laying around, why not, but I would've rather put the money into the oil cooler. Also, as I said, the stock tires just don't grip, so the extra power goes unused. I don't regret getting COBB AP, it's a really great tool and definitely gives the car more oomph, I just think I could've gotten an oil cooler instead.

I want some lighter weight seats, and an LSD, both of those are what I'm aiming to get next. ER can lighten up your interior chassis and add a cage if you want, but I still use this as a daily driver.

Bottom line for me, not much I want to do but get more track experience. The mods I want help with the cars handling more than any power gains. Tired of those freakin Miatas always catching me on the corners...lol.

If you're free on the 23rd or 24th come out and check it out, even if just to spectate. If the track isn't full, you could always ask one of the organizers how much to join for the day if you decide to. I'm going on the 24th, and I'd be happy to talk to you about anything you're interested in then. If you want to caravan out, I'll be leaving Cerritos area about 6am. PM me for meet up location (not far from 605 ramp).
