Haven't been following this post for a while but a quick look today and the comments about tall poppy syndrome certainly strikes a chord. I feel it's worse in my case as I look 5 years younger than I actually am (I'm 32).
I drove my e46 318ti for 5 years for fear of being vandalized and targeted and even then I thought it may have been too flash. But after 5 years I thought this was ridiculous as I love cars and I've worked extremely hard to open up my own private practice 2 years ago. I have been working for over 10 years in this profession and remember back in the uk I was doing 120 hours per week as an intern. So in the end I just thought stuf it and bought a new x5 2 years ago. I still get jealous and disapproving looks as all they see is a young kid, with no job, and probably driving his parents car. To hell with all that I say now. I will spend my money how I see fit and enjoy my passion of cars and driving. I can see you're all enthusiasts here and have worked hard to be where you are and so what if you want to enjoy the fruits of your labour. |
