quietest exhaust for N55 with cattless DP?
I just installed a BMS cattless DP, the rest of the exhaust is stock. I don't care for how loud the car is on start-up. What is the quietest exhaust for an N55 with a cattless DP?

Also, did you get the new BMS DP Fix too? How is that working for you? Does it fix the idle problems? Are you tuned at all? |

Most exhaust even the quieter ones will all be louder on cold starts. The car revs itself pretty high at first but quiets down quite a bit afterword. I know what you mean tho. I think I'm going to go with Remus. It sounds pretty mellow. Search YouTube and listen to a couple.

my car is EXTREMELY loud on start up. like it hurts my head in the mornings if i start it with the garage closed. after it warms up it is quickly tamed unless I am on it. and I have no mufflers, resonators, or cats. vk downpipes, rr midpipes, and berk race exhaust

Honestly speaking though, even though mine is a N54, my Stock exhaust is louder at startup than my Berk Street Performance exhaust. Don't know if you ever got a chance to hear mine at the Welt meet. The raspy sound is not for me on daily driving and I went back to the Berk after 1 day. I thought I had a mad cat with a throat problem in my stock exhaust. I plan on going to the 'ring on the 16th. If you're there you can check it out or I can send you a pair of vids I have on the exhaust.

I didn't make the Welt meet this year.
The Berk Race was just too much, the drone on the Autobahn was headache inducing. WOT was great, but the drone killed it for me. I guess I just need to stop comparing my BMW's exhaust note with my WRX. The BMW will never sound as good as a flat 4 with unequal length exhaust headers. /sigh I'm on holiday hiking in Garmisch right now. As soon as I get back I'm going to do some logging with the JB4. If I can't get the car to run (and sound) a bit better I'm going to sell the DP and the JB4.

+1. I think you should look at the BMW Performance Exhaust. Its quiet when you need it but loud on WOT. And it does not drone. At least not that I have heard.

maddad whisper is about 5 to 10% louder then stock with no drone. When you get above 3500-4k rpm the exhaust opens up a whole lot but not too loud.

Also, you shouldn't compare 2 totally different cars that were meant for 2 different purposes. Just my .02 cents.

I understand that the tune won't make the car sound better, but if it ran better the truck-like sound wouldn't annoy me nearly as much.
My WRX and my 135 have the exact same purpose: get me from A to B in the most fun manner possible.

By what I had seen when the N55 had come out, with Dp's and exhaust they had a stronger "exhaust note" than the N54. Granted power was not initially the same (per se) as the N54 but most are now in the 380HP and above by figuring out their setups and tunes. Good luck with your ventures, but I would work to figure out the settings and maps first before ditching stuff out.

I can't do anything right now, on vacation with the family in Garmisch. I was able to update the firmware and check some other settings to be sure they're N55 correct before we left.
So far I've tried Map 1, 2 and 5 and they all have tons of lag, an odd throttle "delay" and a horrible idle. I've been reading N54tech for a few months but I haven't been able to log so no reason to request Terry's direct help yet. I'm not slagging on the JB4, it's just not the "plug and play" device for me that it seems to be for other people. I'm sure I'll get it sorted one way or another.
