Canadian newb with 2011 128i Cab on order - need opinions on tires
Hi everyone, looks like a neat site.
First BMW, had bikes but first BMW car for me. So another toy on the way - gotta find space. It's a tri-black six speed. 1st order of business - need winters. Or will stock run flats 205/50/17 all seasons get me through this winter in your opinions? May sell 'em and get a proper 18' summer package and seperate winters. Opinions appreciated Took demos out for extended drives, tried both 135 and 128. 135 was fun, but kinda like my sportbike can't go WOT for long, the 128 with the 6 speed felt sweet, liked the ride better too, and nice value. Was just a few degrees over freezing and with the seat heaters and wind blocker in place, top down was nice!

In Ontario?? Oh yeah you gonna need snow tires buddy! Stick with the oem rims and mount snow tires.......Spring: pick up summer 18" rims/tires.

I know people who drive the stock tires in the winter but I'd never dream of it personally. I have the Michelin Xi2's which seem to wear nice and are a comfortable, relatively quiet ride but very slushy in the corners. I'm sure there are other tires that are nearly as nice for less money and I'd consider it a good investment for the winter since you wouldn't want to get in an accident or lose control of your nice new Bimmer.

Thanks for the opinions. Think I'll go with winters w/stock 17' rims, and sell the run flats, and buy an 18' summer package.
Now, about rustproofing, wondering what you guys do - do you oil spray 'em or use the wax rust proofing or just expect the galvanized panels will hold up? I understand the front hood and fenders are alloy, is that true? I oil-spray my truck, works likes a charm.

My bro' just ordered his 128i coupe last week and already is waiting to put Blizzaks on as soon as it hits the dealership mid December. Will monitor thread 'cause I'm a good brother Waiting on my 128 vert and will run summers all year long... man I love livin' in the Sunshine State Look forward to seeing some more Winter Tire reviews to pass along to my big bro..... btw, does anyone understand the logic behind the heated steering wheel not being included in the cold weather package?
