New Shoes for the 1er, HELP on fitment

I have a few questions now that my rear 2 shoes are on the way. I've done alot of research, however I can't find the specific answer I'm looking for.

I plan on running Breyton GTS-R's but have a question on fitment.
I am running H&R lowering springs. --> I wanted to run the 18x8.5 ET48's instead of the 18x7.5 ET45's on the front, however I wanted to find out some more info on the clearance. I like the concave look of the 8.5's vs the 7.5's.

Questions:
1. Will the rim clear the strut / shocks / other suspension components w/o a spacer? Will a spacer be required to make the rim fit?

2. If the rim does have the potential to fit, What is the biggest tire I will be able to run without having rubbing issues? (I would prefer not to have too much of a stretched tire, FE: The smallest tire I'd want to run on the rim is a 225.)

Thanks!
~J

I have H&R coilovers on and GTSR's staggered and still have rubbing problems with sharp dips, particularly on the rear. Rubs the outer edge of the fender liner. Biggest tire on front will be 225 I'm sure.

Is anyone running the 8.5" wheel on the front? I have seen a few people running the 8.5"on the front, however they have serious suspension work, For example: camber plates, coils etc... Anyone on lowering springs or on stock springs with the 8.5"s on the front?

The general consensus is that the 8.0" is the widest you can go in the front without rubbing and modifying the fender for more clearance. There is still the possibility of of rubbing though.

There are at least 2 guys on the forum that run the 8.5 ET48 from Breyton up front. They have installed spacers (5mm or 10mm) up front in order to clear the strut.....

Do you know what suspension they are using, if they rolled their fenders, have camber plates, and also their tire size?

Or if you could direct me to a thread where the info is located, That would be even better.

I need some help. I currently have the OEM M-Sport Style261 wheels.

The fronts are 18x7.5 ET47. I run a 10mm spacer in the front right now and a 215/40/18 tire. The 10mm spacer will drop the ET to 37, right? I have no fender/ rubbing issues now.

...So from that information, I'm thinking I would be able to run the 18x8.5 ET48 GTS-R wheel w/ a 10mm spacer as well, which drops the ET to 38, and run... say, 225/35/18 tires w/o fender issues right? Did that make any sense or was that illogical?

I assume you are planning a square setup, 8.5 fr and rear. If I went that way I'd for sure try to squeeze 235 tires in. If you are staggering then 225 would be smarter on your first set then if you seem to have enough space, try 235 next set.

Lot's of us without Breytons have 8.5 fronts with offsets around 40. It's a tight fit on both sides. You'd probably have to add camber plates if you went with a 10mm spacer. Good luck!

I don't understand the purpose of trying to fit a wide 8.5" wheel in the front only to put 225 tires on it. There will be no benefit and the tires will look stretched. You can put the 7.5" GTS-R wheel in the front with 225/40R18 tires and should not have issues. Now, if you want to try to fit a 245 tire in the front then the 8.5" wheel would make sense but you would probably have to modify the fenders and suspension to avoid rubbing.

I wanted the 8.5's all around since they are noticeably more concave vs the 7.5"s. The purpose of this thread was to see if I could fit the 8.5" up front without any suspension mods such as camber plates, arms, fender rolling, etc.

I have a set of 7.5"s already on the way, but thanks everyone for their input. Looks like I'll be using some spacers.

We have done 8.5 +45 up front with a 225 tire on a 1-Series before without an issue at stock sport height. Unfortunately though, we have not yet tried a more conservative fitment.
