who has removed the mesh in front of the intercooler?

I just pulled the mesh piece off in front of my intercooler and was wondering what those who have done this did with that plastic bracket behind it?

as you can see above, what I did was cut out the mesh and leave the solid pieces around the sides. I didn't like the appearance of the clips that held the plastic piece in, so i took it out, cut out the center, cleaned it up, and painted it gloss black.

I'm thinking of doing this but I don't want to bang up the intercooler too bad from rocks and such even though I don't think the mesh grill does much. Anybody who has done this notice the IC getting beat up?

thanks, I think I am just going to remove the whole piece when I take the bumper off for the new IC and dremel off the tabs that held the mesh

You'd notice the area around the intercooler (paint & the plastic mesh & such) if it were a significant issue. I have no problems.

I would paint the supports silver, so they are noticed less.

But clearly a path to take for a FMIC...

In order to DIY:

Find ramps or lift.
Put car on said ramps or lift.
Remove the 20,000 screws holding in the underpan.
Remove underpan.
Find said plastic mesh piece.
Pull on said plastic mesh piece.
Reinstall.

Or, find any intercooler install DIY.

I can only imagine to show off your intercooler (hopefully aftermarket) and increase airflow a nominal percentage. The look doesn't do much for me, but be sure to post finished pictures.

I don't see the point. The front looks unfinished. Leave the mesh grill in, or replace it with something zippier. It looks like someone added an intercooler that wasn't there, and couldn't afford to finish the job.
