More info on IPOD connector
Do you guys remember me saying BMW was testing its forst iPOD kit for the E90 ?
Well my connection had a close look at the production version that will be available in the next few months Unfortunately this one is NOT for cars with Bluetooth or Bluetooth preparation or cars with Logic 7( they are apparently still working on that one ), and you must have multifunction buttons on the steering wheel Now the retrofit iPOD kit puts a iPOD connector under the armrest, so the iPOD lies in the llittle tray A little screen is addded between the 2 vents on the centre of the dashboard ( logic 7 has a speaker here, thats why this doesnt work for it ) You can then controll the iPOD from the steering wheel and read on the screen what you normally read on the iPOD. The sound is then played over the stereo through the new cable that connects to the radio through the AUX IN ( all you see is a small plug in the Aux IN, the IPOD connecor and the new screen ) He says it all looks and sounds very good AND software is comming to play DVD Mp3's one of these days if you have navigation. Sorry no pics yet, but kit is ready and should be available soon Last edited by E90Fleet; 07-16-2005 at 07:33 PM.. |

Almost enough to make me want to change my order to add NAV. Hmm, $300-$500 for an IPOD + say $250 for the upcoming integration kit (just a guess) vs.$2000 for NAV, plus you get several other benefits... decisions decisions... you just made my life a lot more difficult. MC |

Does DVD mp3 capability also mean CD mp3 capability is inevitable?

True, an mp3 DVD would be just as good as an IPOD, better in fact in the instance that you don't have to pay for the IPOD kit for integration. However, I imagine you would need the iDrive/Nav option so that you can get the DVD slot. And while using a mp3 DVD, you couldn't use the Nav DVD. Unless of course the CD slot in our radios are also DVD slots, but I find this doubtful.
So hopefully, they will give us mp3 capability across the board. Quote:

Sounds interesting but rather expensive. My guess is BMW will charge 500+. Dension's ice link seems like a much more reasonable alternative, although there is no version for the e90 yet.

I think Amil mentioned he has all his CDs burned to MP3s, which I also agree is a good way to go. I've had my iPod in the centre console (non-iDrive) and its a pain in the rear to change playlist etc. Not very elegant.
With a pile of CDs burned onto one MP3 CD, I've got hours and hours of all the tunes I want, and the CD player lists the artist, album and song on the stock CD player. Good enough for me ! |

http://store.sik.com/merchant.mv?Scr...egory_Code=AAi which will charge the ipod and connect to AUX from the dock connector, so you don't have a cable in the top of the ipod, then route the cable through the hand rest compartment to the little opening behind the shifter and drop your ipod in there at an angle. That's what I do and have perfect control of the click wheel and view of the screen. It's not the most elegant solution but works better than the handrest and the line out audio is much much better than what you get from the headphones output.

If I only had known about this before wasting $ on this new Belkin charger that fits under the armrest. I already have that IAirPlay on ebay since that didn't fit. I can't imagine putting the Belkin on ebay and getting this one now. |
