Can't Park!
Got back into my whip this arvo to find a hand written note on my windscreen.
So I walk around the front of the car to find the nice number plate cover smashed and also two shallow grooves in the front bar. I call the number and Liz is an older lady who is most apologetic. I mention that there is also damage to the front bar and she's quick to tell me her towbar sticks out and couldn't possibly have touched anything than the numberplate cover. Sigh.

+1 good that she left a note unlike most people who just bail... It will be easy to prove that the extra damage was from here based on the height of the tow bar and any other protruding parts of her vehicle

It's not up to her to decide whether the impact was possible or not A quick assessment will reveal the truth.

Benny, yeah no biggie, I'll whip over to Mick and get him to sort it out.
Seems like a nice old lady, decent enough to leave a note. She said she'd pay to replace the cover but I mean, I couldn't be arsed on that score. It's just irritating to have to get it sorted. What bothers me about that sort of damage is that it's not bad enough to mandate having the bar redone and yet it's irritating knowing it looks shit so you have to do something.

That's definitely crap MrBlonde. Quite unfortunate, but at least she had the decency to leave a note - a rare rare thing these days!

Most times the note would read:
"I just backed into your car and smashed its grill and front bar with my towbar. Everbody watching thinks I'm writing down my contact details etc, but actually I'm not...have a nice day."

Better than the moron who backed into my car on Friday and didn't leave a note. Fortunately not major major damage, but it will cost me money to get it fixed (insurance excess). I do hope karma catches up with the culprit.

Sorry to hear Kenny but as everyone else has already mentioned, you're lucky she left a note. If you take it to a good repairer, it will look better than what is was before though, good luck with it.
This has happened to everyone in my family at least once... Not once have they left a note so we've had to fork out insurance excess every time. |

I took the rig over to my guy this morning and he replaced the number plate cover, corrected the shape of the number plate(!) and cleaned up the two scratches on the front bar and used some AWIII touchup paint to tart it up a bit. I decided against repainting it, I'll just wait until the front bar gets some real damage to do it properly.

Ah yes, the good old days!
I remember many years ago I was driving a VW beetle, most cars then had metal "bumper bars". This old bloke backed into me with a thud and I got out and inspected the damage. My bumper bar was badly bent and the old bloke just looked at me and said "that's what bumper bars are for so what's my problem?" We had a verbal exchange and he just drove off. I took his rego number and contacted my insurance company - they told me that they would take care of everything. I had my car repaired without any cost to me and never heard from my insurance company. I suppose that they must have got their money back from his insurance company. "Bumper bars" today are very expensive cosmetic items |

The accident I had about this time last year with that stupid woman driving other people's kids in her C200 wagon set her insurance back $875 for the front right wheel alone! It was the most expensive part, higher than a new offside front wheel arch panel. Then I found out the front cross member is a very expensive replacement to have done :-/ |
