I remember one Audi produced by a tuner having wider tires in front. The RS3 has the engine in front of the frontaxle and a quatro based on front wheel drive. All the weight in the front makes the car very front heavy und understeering. A wider front track (compare the figures) seems not to be enough so they put some more rubber in front to feight the weight and understeer. |

Other thing I noticed was how close the two cars are on HP and torque. Interesting comparison though, thanks for posting that up Graeme |

Like the TT and regular A3 - front bias until slippage or unequal rotation (cornering) detected. Put the meat where it will do the most good. Hence the wider front tires relative to the rear. Not the first time it's been done: the MTM S2 RSR had 265 in front, 235 in rear: http://www.rs6.com/showthread.php/18028-MTM-Audi-S2-RSR.

Audi interior is unmatched, sadly (for the 1 ///M) it shows it's dominance here as well. Biggest issue for me is lack of a manual (and of course we are not getting it here in the US so decision is that much easier).
And why quattro GmbH (makers of RS products) continues the strategy of rolling out an RS platform in the base model's last year of production is beyond me...

That Audi is hideous...and I still don't get this fascination with Audi interiors - I've spent plenty of time in A4's and A6's and they didn't blow my skirt up.
This new 1M kicks Audi butt...period. |

Compared with the Audi, the BMW does look a bit mundane (interior and exterior) to be completely honest, fancy chicken wire fascia on the Audi notwithstanding, but also looks more athletic than the Audi. It's less flashy but probably altogether a more cohesive package. All that is secondary for me though. If the comparison in drive between the A3 (2.0T and 3.2)/R32 and the 135i is any indication on a different level of how things will pan out at this level, then the BMW must still and again be the one I'd go home with.

Oh, one thing tho. The sound that 5-cylinder motor in the Audi makes is to die for.

based on pricing I would rather have a stripped S4 w/ sport package and sport diff over these two. It's just as fast and has more standard features.

I hate how Audi's DSG tranny is laid out on the manual mode part.
When you're flooring it and getting sucked into your seat, it just feels weird to push the stick foward to shift up BMW on the other hand, laid it out correctly

It is much more natural to pull when accellerating und to push while braking. (think about your own bodyweight under acceleration and under braking) You can use this as your argument. I am curious to hear the counter arguement why he thinks Audi has the right arrangement.... |
