Liked it, thanks.
I agree with Ray, I'm soooo disappointed that BMW didn't get the weight down. It's a great idea to make a smaller car with better performance, but it seems like they didn't deliver on the concept. Haven't taken my deposit back, though. Still hoping for some good, in depth, comparison reviews. |

Ahh, not this weight crap again. The car weighs 32XX. What the hell do you people want? A 2900lb car with a complaint ride? I dont think so.

Enough with the weight already. It's not as light as we would have hoped, true. However, 3373lbs. for a 135i, 3395lbs for an '08 STI, and 3585lbs for an Evo X, the 1 doesn't look quite so hefty to me. The last 2 have awd, but also have 2 fewer cylinders and lower build quality. Throw in the big price jumps (STI $35 cheaper than the 135i, Evo X for approx. $34K for the GSR and $39K for the MR) for both AWD models and the 135i is sounding like a better deal all the time. Even my friend that owns an Evo IX SE said he'd rather have a 335i than an Evo at that price. The Yen is held artificially low against the dollar and the Euro is screaming up all the time. I don't know what excuse they could have for the pricing.
Also, the whole outright dismissal of any American cars no matter what irked me. At least the Jalopnik editor had some sense in that count, even though he could only focus on the weight of the 135i. |

If the 135i is only imperceptably quicker, if it is only imperceptably more tossable, then I'd rather have the 335i. I don't see how the 135i can be enough better without being lighter, but maybe BMW has some magic, so I'm still hoping. Remember, add one good-sized passenger and the 135i weighs as much a 535i. |

The weight issue is rediculous. On one side folks want leather, nav, safety, stereos, etc. and at the same time make it light for a good price. You cant have them all.

I like how the nerdy dude's response to the idea of American cars being crap is "bu, buu, ZO6!!!!1"
Ok, fine. Even a broken watch is right twice a day isnt it? If you asked me which one American car came to mind that people all over the world like enough to actually want, I'd probably say ZO6 too, but that doesn't change the fact that 95% of American cars ARE crap does it? |

I don't think they knew the weight of the 135i... probably still have the old lit showing it weighing 37xxlbs... Ford Needs to bring back a Merkur type car. What ever happened to the 2-door hatchback. A light 4cyl turbo with the same HP as the Mustange, but with a euro interior style and upscale(no frill) materials for $40k Manufactureres keep saying nobody wanted them, what we didn't like was the air leaks and noise when doing 90mph. |

This is so darn funny!
Just wait for some moron to put this car into a wall at 100+ and walk away. Why does everyone think BMW wants to make a car heavy. It's because all that METAL helps to protect stupid people. How many of you have been in a severe car accident? I'll take the heavy and safe BMW over this other pocket rocket crap any day.

I bet if it were the opposite, people would be writing posts about BMW's cheap craftsmanship and lack of safety concern |

i think the point of the weight issue is if a manufacturer is going to make a 335 and a 135 you better differentiate. 200 pounds and a couple inches in length doesnt quite differentiate for me. i personally wish they had kept the 335 marketing to people who want luxury, compliant ride, minimal road noise, heavy/secure sounding doors, bmw overhype, sat, navi, auto, adults in the back, etc and not tried to keep so much of that in the 1 series. like, oh i dont know, really actually return to 3 series/2002 roots *cough* like they said *cough* and made a couple sacrifices that would have yielded a significantly lower weight.
thusly my gaze turns to the tii bottom line, every time the weight issue does get brought up again, this is pretty much what ends it.. name any car with similar performance, good handling and lower weight. miata, mini.. sorry but i'm with izzodesh. not for me. |
