Today I got my e88 a wind deflector. Someone 20 minutes away listed it for sale for $50 and knocked $25 off when I said I was coming to get it right away. $25 for a genuine BMW e88 Wind Deflector!
I can't install it yet though because the car's in the shop waiting delivery of a new CSF radiator to replace the OEM one which split a side tank last week. |

I got my two front tires replaced. About 20k miles out of them, pretty good especially for what my 1er endures.

Got a catless downpipe! Can't wait to install it. I've heard it's a PITA on the N55 so we'll see how it goes.

It's not really too bad. It's just the V-Band that is a bit of a pain to line up when putting it in. A little cursing and fuddling and it'll just pop in the right position and then tighten er up.

Threw in the Eibach Pro Kit yesterday and had the car aligned. The upper strut mounts were toast, so I replaced those are well. They were full of sand, I was shocked to see how much! Car feels good...happy with the stance. 261M's with PSS go back on tomorrow, along with new brakes (ECS rotors and Carbotech pads). Going to try and squeeze 12mm spacers all around, but may have to run 5mm instead. Keep you posted on the rub!

In the middle of changing out the water pump. Holy cow is this a PITA for a 135is E88.
Can't get one of the hoses off the thermostat and can't get the damn pump out because I can't even see/tell where the 3rd bolt is for the pump. |

Well, the pump and the thermostat are out. As usual, every video makes it look effortless whereas I just spent 1.5 hours trying to get the third water pump bolt out and the thermostat.
Thanks to all my hoses being incredibly stuck on and what seems to be less clearance than any video I'm seeing. Also, I've noticed there's significant cracking on my power steering rack. What the heck is up with that? It looks like a slightly hit up egg shell in the middle of it. Do I need to be worried? Is it possibly just some paint? I'd hate to have to replace that now too! |

Nope. I didn't do that. I guess I could. I've been busy with replacing the water pump today. So I haven't really paid much attention to anything else until I got it all out. Seems this is going to be a 2-day affair.

They look like casting flaws to me. As long as it doesn't penetrate into the rack or leak oil, you're probably fine...

It's not coated as far as I can tell. I did scratch it up. Seems like casting flaws or possible real cracks. I'll have to keep an eye on it. (Which is kinda of hard because it requires jacking up the car and removing the panel...)

Just casting flash- happens with sand cast items and is no big deal, doesn't create weak points or anything, is strictly surface. The rack is under pressure and you'd be spewing fluid all over if they were actual cracks. Additionally, they would have had to be there from manufacture original install, and the part would have failed initial inspection. Any contact heavy enough to cause such cracking, like road debris for example, would have left some very very(!) significant indications elsewhere.
Today I ordered tires & pads! Can't wait to get off the run flats, but damn if the tires aren't backordered I was going to order them last week, wonder it that would have mattered... Since I'm not hardcore I went with the very highly rated Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 in 225/40 and 255/35 through TireRack after finding that even all my local tire places couldn't get them either. As of today, the 225's won't ship till 5/11, and the 255's, the one's I really need soon, are just listed as backordered. Now to decide on brake fluid and make use of Chadillac2000's INPA bleeding post to go with the new pads & shoes! Is it possible to check piston condition without pulling calipers & pads? My brakes have always been what I would describe as a bit "sticky"- I've been suspecting pad compound or coding. I'd hate to find out my pistons were all melty during the swap and want to inspect first so I can order pistons if needed...

I deleted the clutch delay valve and bled the clutch 3x.
The clutch feels very different. Slightly softer and about 20% shorter in throw. I am not sure if this is how it is supposed to feel but the delay is gone and no more jerkiness and the clutch engages when i tell it to. Can anyone confirm about the softness and shorter throw?
