Unhappy Help? Engine noise...

Hey guys,

It's chilly out, we started up the car just to move it, and noticed this strange ticking noise. Has anyone else heard this? Any ideas? Any advice would be appreciated...video attached. Should I be concerned?

Thanks.

If I am hearing the correct noise (high speed clicking), I always attribute that to the DI system. I have heard in other cars with DI similar noises.

1M SUSI, I noticed the "clicking" when I parked as well... I was a bit worried, than the sound went away after i started driving.

I am assuming they are from the injectors. If it keeps up I will take it in for service.

Normal D.I. noise. IF you were to remove the plastic valve cover and insulation foam pad... you would be amazed how much louder the injectors really are!

This noise is one of the things BMW has addressed with their latest SW update for 135i's (both for N54's and N55's). But in doing so they killed the throttle response(ie lag) and tip in power. I wonder how long it will take them to make a SW update for the 1M's that will do the very same thing. Its only a matter of time me thinks. Most people don't understand these noises are normal and they tend to percieve them as a bad thing. BMW NA knows this.

I have found that when I switched from Mobil-1 0w40 LL-1 oil to the German Castrol 0w40 oil, this noise is not so pronounced. It is still there... but its much quieter then with the Mobil-1. Q). What oil are you running? Brand and type?

Thanks for all the replies. I'm just being paranoid cuz she's going to be put away soon and I cant stop worrying about her. Any way Dackelone when I got the 1200mil service they put in. --->

QTY 7 07-51-0-017-954 Motor Oil SAE 5w-30

It's got 2200mils on her now. Thanks again. All the advice is making me feel better.
