Video of HPFP Failing

So, you're not sure if your HPFP is really failing, and you think "Hey, maybe it's just the colder weather. Longer cranks are to be expected, right?" Well, that's what I thought:

[u2b]<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/CGe1tqArnLM&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/CGe1tqArnLM&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>[/u2b]

I made sure the dealer put in the "new" model (part no. 13-51-7-592-881). I hear these still go out though.

Chime in if you've had the "new" pump fail on you. Maybe these really do have a lower failure rate? I hope so.

I still love my car. If another one goes out on me, I think this will be my last bimmer though. It's just silly BMW isn't really doing something about this. Dealers know about the issue, customers know about the issue, and yet BMW doesn't deliver a better/redesigned pump? Hrm.

My thanks to North County BMW (in So CA) for being truthful, knowledgeable, and doing a timely repair. That brand new 328i loaner car was nice, but nothing like my white rocket. Glad to have it back.

That is a really depressing video. "Fix it" is too kind of an ending caption.

I used to record my long cranks as well but dealer didn't want to hear any of it. They took care of me though, gave me a new pump every time the problem exacerbated to the point of service engine soon light is on.

In the end, BMW bought back my car and stood behind their car. To that, I may consider BMW in the future. Jeremy and I put together an online petition and quite surprisingly I just checked and we have 200+ signatures now.

Sign it and spread the word: http://www.petitiononline.com/fixpump/petition.html

I also write a post on my buy back experience in the maintenance section, in case anyone qualifies and wishes to go that route. Lots of work but well worth it.

What!? This is the first I've heard of it. Where is this information coming from? When did they start issuing these? What's the full part number (so we know what to ask for next time)?

Isn't it funny when presenting your car with this issue how the BMW techs give you a blank stare when confronting them about a possible HPFP failure. It's like they are droids programmed to deny any such repeatable widespread pattern to this epic fail.

Either way, I think the N54 engine will go down in history remembered as the engine with the dud fuel pumps, which is a shame since it's an otherwise brilliant performing engine.

BMW need to step up their game if they want to win over people to their brand and admit to the issue. Staying in the shadows with this has only cemented the fact that they can't be trusted as a reliable brand.

End rant!!!!!!!!

What a terrible blemish on an otherwise fantastic car. People deserve better from BMW.

881 is another faulty pump. I went through two of those myself. The new pump # is 943.

i hope I am wrong, but I bet the new pumps will fail too. I doubt the pumps themselves are defective, but rather the engine design is flawed causing the pumps to fail.

Everyone should vote for it and leave a comment. Also post it on any bimmer board you belong to.

STICKY this and you should vote on the video regardless if you had long cranks or not.
