BMW Fooled Me
I just noticed that the image in my signature (pulled from the BMW site) really downplays the amber reflectors. The image makes them look so much less obnoxious. Damn you and your trickery BMW.
Here's an example: *pulled from Young1er's thread*

I do not understand all the fuss about the amber reflectors. Really.

I honestly like the amber. I feel they make the lights look smaller. They break up the space.

I don't love them, but I'm not going to mask the issue or spend $1k to change them.

unfortunatly it will be expensive to swap with euro versions, another option might be to try, if at all possible, to get some body colored vinyl and cover them up. I'm not that familiar with the 1er though, if doing this keeps the turn signal from being seen at all, I wouldn't suggest it. If its still visible from the front, maybe, the side marker will take car of people being able to see your signal from the side...
On the original topic, I hope you looked at some real-world pictures before ordering, especially if you ordered Montego. To me, it will sometimes look purple, as in that picture posted. Not a big deal, just something else not shown on the configurator...

Ok this thread wasn't about the amber reflectors themselves. It was simply pointing out how BMW downplays the hideousness of them. I'm not going to be spending a grand to have them swapped with euros (at least, no time in the foreseeable future).
There are already plenty of threads regarding the look of the ambers. I was simply pointing out how BMW masks them in their configuration online.

The BMW config masks/hides aLOT of things...like mainly all the real world appearances of the trims and interiors. Maybe they do this to downplay the differences btw the euros and the US models (talking about the ambers)....either way we still buy it bc we love it....damn fast little car!

BTW that's not my car, I won't have mine until May 29th. Between the clear headlights and Le Mans Blue, I'm tempted! Plus the cloth interior would be a bonus.

With all the attention given to little amber reflectors, how is it red taillights are exempt from criticism? What am I missing?

That seems to be the consensus, because you have to order the entire setup not just the housing itself.
