battery coding question
I found this PDF with instructions on how to code a different battery. My question with it is: don't you still have to change some VO settings for the new battery as well? Like if your switching from lead acid to AGM?
Is it even worth it to switch to AGM? |

If I already have a OBDII interface cable to USB (from my AA Simon Tool), can I download INPA software and code the battery this way?

That's a handy little step by step instruction set. The difference between wet and AGM batteries is not an additional step, it is additional settings under the KLASSE_BATTERIE: area of the software. Here is a longer list of the options:
70ah 80ah 90ah 110ah 55ah 46ah 40ah_agm 70ah_agm 90ah_agm 60ah_agm 80ah_agm You could tell what type of battery your old one is by looking at this setting. Here is a link to some ways to tell the types of batteries apart: http://www.ehow.com/how_7146519_tell...batteries.html Jim

if you have that cable you should be good to go. Unfortunately downloading the inpa software and installing is a little bit involved. Let me search around for the instructions I used and ill pm it to you.

The link comes from this family of sites so I guess it's okay to post here. Anyways, there are the instructions I used. You can search around...there seems like there are a million ways to do it, but this one worked for me...even though its long and kind of ridiculous. I also installed this on my macbook air using parallels. Good Luck!
I'll also PM you a link to the DATEN files I used. Also that Inpa download link on the page takes forever from that site, I'll send you a link to it from my mega. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=918608 Last edited by muddtt; 07-17-2014 at 12:13 PM.. |

What are folks using to keep the car energized while coding? Ive read that a 70A power supply is the preferred approach, but not entirely sure.
I need to learn how to do this, but there always seem to be small parts left out or confusing. As for technology, Is AGM necesary? The benefit IMO for trunk mounting is that they do not offgas at all, so there is no chance of corrosive environments in the trunk. Plus, the trunk IS a great spot because heat kills batteries and they will stay cooler. AGM should last longer, espeically in that location. I work batteries for my day job, and I wouldnt recommend AGM for all applications, but for trunk-mounted, and especially if the cars are less-regularly used, IMO it is a good choice. |

I've never had a problem running my battery down coding. But I you do, it can create a mess. Hooking up a charger would eliminate the risk. Power used during coding is minimal. Any charger should work fine.

I just wish the AE lights wouldn't turn on while coding. That makes me feel like the battery is draining more than i'd like it to.
