Are Coupe and convertible trunk spoilers the same?

I've been looking for a trunk spoiler to put on my vert and I see some that say coupe only? The trunks look the same and it doesn't move when the roof goes down. Is there really a difference or will I be good to go with a CF JB Speed?

There is a slight difference in trunks. I got an iCarbon spoiler last year which was made for coupes and it fits my vert fine. I can't speak for any other brands though.

A friend of mine had a small lip spoiler that he removed from the trunk of his 08 135i coupe, and when we tried it on my 11 128i convertible, the trunk edge had a different shape and the spoiler didn't match.

with the top down, the vert is aerodynamically unstable to justify a spoiler, unless your doing it for just looks. . . .

Be careful there - I just wrote to 2 ebay sellers who listed spoilers as compatible with both the coupe and convertible, and asked them each to specifically confirm compatibility with the vert. One wrote back to say that it wasn't compatible (even tho their listing clearly says E82 & E88). The other was clearly a customer service agent of limited English skills who simply said "we only list items compatible with the car" (or somesuch).

If you find something that works, let us know.

Coupe or Vert the tiny little CF spoiler is mostly for show, to my knowledge no one has demonstrated and BMW hasn't claimed anything more.

PS I'd love to see data to the contrary! I wouldn't be surprised if BMW tested it in their wind tunnel at some point. Usually to be effective you need to get the spoiler out of the air flow boundary layer, that's the idea of pop up spoilers found on many Porsches
