Thinking about changing my order and adding the Premium Package.......
You can see below what I have on order. Thinking about adding ZPP. I was already planning on getting the rearview mirror with compass/garage door opener, which has to be at least $500 installed as a Dealer add-on. The Bluetooth is what is luring me. Seems like it would be a great feature. Leather is also cool (I had aftermarket leather installed in my last car, a WRX, and liked it), but I really like 'ette for its durability. Up until this point, I felt I could easily do without ZPP, but now I am leaning towards, if I order it, I won't regret it, but if I don't, I might wind up wishing I had. Money is not really an issue. My other concern, is the more electronics you have, the more that can go wrong. I'm getting the car because of it's driving characteristics, not for the luxury. But did a little luxury ever hurt anyone? Any opinions out there?

I added Premium after my initial order and I'm glad I did. Bluetooth is a must have for me, and that leather really looks nice after a bit of leather treatment.

Bluetooth is awesome. Just make sure that you have or get a compatible phone. I consider the Bluetooth a safety feature - total handsfree calling and eyes never leave the road.
PP also gives you power-folding exterior mirrors, power adjust seats with memory, plus auto-dimming on center and exterior mirrors. SP seats with leather and lumbar support when combined with PP are the most comfortable and supporting for "spirited driving"

I think PP is worth it if you need bluetooth and leather. Some people don't like leather for its durability and I completely understand but bluetooth is such a important safety feature that should be on every new car IMO. It is very convenient and works flawless

http://www.leatherique.com I used them on our 328i. Cleaned up nicely. I traded in soon after though. Now I have the 'ette. I recommend that you put the products in spray bottles. Makes them last much longer.

Do a search and you can find the upgrade on bluetooth on this forum, but it's much easier to get the PP and you don't have to mess with the upgrade.

I don't think the electronics it adds will cause too much more trouble in the longrun.... the Navi package though, that's another story...

I understand your misgiving about the leather. However, I actually think the leather BMW is using this time is of better quality. It feels thicker and softer. Yes, you can get much better grade/quality leather in the aftermarket, but you can still do that a few years down the road if you want a change. That way you can freshen your interior as the car gets older. The bluetooth is WAAAAY cool! Don't miss out on that. I LOVE it. It is actually a safety device in my view as you can answer and make calls without removing your hands from the steering wheel, as long as you have the voice dial capabilities on your cell phone pkg. Also, don't forget that you do get return value on the resale as any added feature will retain a resale value later. And, if you're leasing don't hesitate one second. An option that may cost $2000 MSRP will probably cost about half that over the 3 year period and less depending on the lease. |

If you have nav with bluetooth option that is even better you can block or screen incoming calls.

From what I have read and experienced, the Bluetooth is awesome and couldn't imagine without it. I have heard problems with power mirrors with one being slower than the other and not having the blue coating that you get without PP. I don't have the mirror with the compass but I hear that the mirror darkens when you don't want to and hard to see. The home link is great if your garage door opener is adaptable with it otherwise not worth it. Pressing one button and pressing another under the mirror is the only difference unless you hate the look of the garage door opener. Since you like the leatherette PP seems useless IMO.

I didn't get the pp.
All I wanted was the leather seats since my car came standard with memory seats and I saved $680. I don't regret it one bit.

Impressions of the premium package from someone who has a year old 330i (PP/SP) with 21K miles...
- I was afraid the Bluetooth integration would be more trouble than it's worth, but in reality it is extremely handy and cool. You just leave your phone in your pocket or in your bag and make calls. Your car will even have a little conversation with you to choose a name to dial. This is much more of a "must have" feature than I expected. The only downside is that the stupid Treo will reboot occasionally when connecting, but then again when doesn't a Treo reboot? - The auto-dimming mirror is another feature that I didn't expect to find as invaluable as I have. It dims the rear and the sides in response to 20ft SUVs and a-hole lights (Xenon's). Yes, I've got Xenons. I'm an a-hole too. - The leather is, well, leather upholstery. I wish the option in the US was between leather and cloth as I probably would have gone for cloth, but for me the choice between leather and pleather seemed a no brainer and what pushed me over the edge on the premium package. I suppose leather wears a bit more, but so far it hasn't been an issue. Truth is I put on a lot of miles and I'll probably trade-in before wear is an issue. Actually, today I've got pleather in a loaner Mini Cooper (my 3's getting a software update). I'm not impressed. It's very stiff and, well, plasticy. - I haven't used the HomeLink option as my garage uses a card access system. I could see this being a "must have" if your garage door is compatible. - I thought the power lumbar support would be more useful than it is. In previous cars the lumbar support was essential, but the sport seats are so form fitted in other ways that the lumbar support doesn't really add much. Also the lumbar support setting is not remembered by the seat memory feature. For that matter the sport seat side bolster settings are not remembered either. - The compass seems like it could be of some use, but is actually pretty useless. Hey, wow! This road is a bit more NE than I previously thought. - The power folding mirrors are useless as well. I live in a city with narrow alleyways, tight street parking, and a narrow garage yet I never, ever use the folding option. The body of the E90 bows out just below the mirrors so even fully extended the mirrors aren't much wider than the car body. I've never had to get into something so tight that the extra couple inches folded mirrors gain you makes a difference. Even if you wanted to use them to protect the mirrors from hazards while parked in public there's no autofolding option so it's just one more chore to do when parking the car. To address your question about the reliability of all the electronics in the PP this is a non-issue. I've run into a couple bugs in the car but they all tend to be in the systems you'll be getting without the PP (engine stutter when cold, emissions recall, passenger airbag indicator). The Bluetooth system is the only really complicated system in the PP and it's pretty decoupled from the rest of the car if something goes wrong. Anyway, bottom line I would absolutely get the PP again, though I agree the SP is by far the more important package to get. For someone like yourself who's not too concerned with cost, just go for it. - Collin |

If you think you might regret it, just get it especially if cost isn't an issue. I am pissed I didn't get the options (xenon, navi) that I had trouble deciding over. That's a mistake I won't make again.
