Wow! Has BMW figured out everything with the alarm system? I heard there were problems installing it.

arrutled, are you installing it yourself and letting the dealership activate it... or are they doing they whole thing?

From what I've read, seems that BMW doesn't have the activation procedure down. So, even if you install it yourself... they still have to reinstall it. Beats the purpose of installing it yourself to save a buck. Can someone chime in on this?

Let us know how it goes.

why does the convertible alarm not have the interior monitoring protection? That would be the one thing I want in an alarm for a convertible (having a soft top).

I installed mine by myself, Dealer programmed, all is well.

I suspect the Convertible doesn't get interior monitoring because it's based upon an ultrasonic emitter and sensor that gets mounted in the rear reading lamp assembly.

I haven't been in a 1er cabrio with the top up, but I'm guessing that that lamp assembly isn't there ;-)

cause if you lock the car and arm it when the top is down, everyone who walks by your car will set it off. anything that moves near your car.

well i had to get software update for more than one reason. So, who knows. you just gotta call your dealer and get a quote. I was quoted 250 at another place as well so i assumed thats what they charged. at the end of the day I feel 100% better that my alarm is in and I will no longer have locked car anxiety!!!
