e85 will cause your fuel filter to clog prematurely on a high mileage vehicle due to its cleaning properties.
after the initial fuel filter change, a regular e85 mix should extend the service life of future fuel filters. apparently, the slow uptake of servo's dispensing e85 is due to the need to upgrade underground storage tanks to be completely sealed (to prevent moisture build up) and to not be corrosive with ethanol. it is reported to be 65% more efficient to produce ethanol than regular fuels. so in a 50:50 mix, taking into account the reduced efficiency of the fuel you are effectively reducing your carbon footprint by about 5%, and paying about 10 - 15% more per tank. *** disclaimer: dont rely on these figures or stated facts. ive only looked into e85 in the last 72 hours and been using it for 24. |

I have used thousands of litres of E85 from Roselle United. It is great stuff. I test it whenever I get it and it is normally closer to 88% ethanol (I buy about 150L at a time in jerry cans). I have never used it in a BMW, but it powers my WRX which makes 300kW ATW (all four wheels), and has done 11.0@125MPH. It is tuned specifically for this fuel (I do not mix it with 98).
I have never used the Caltex. I have friends who do and report it to be closer to 70% ethanol, which would be fine if you had tuned for it, but my ECU is tuners for the United 88%. |

So lots of mods.... but I was running all that on 98 RON fuel, and did not select the mods for E85, but have run E85 on that system with no issues. |

Just to add... going to E85 from 98 yielded about 15% more power as is common on turbo cars. Went from about 230kW ATW to about 270kW ATW on E85 with a couple psi more boost (and alot more ignition timing). I then made some turbo changes and a bit more boost to get to 300 (well 298 actually on a glory run, but consistently 290-295).

I liked running 100octane in my 350Z, definitely felt a difference.
But I dunno about running ethanol in my car, I know it can take it but not sure if its best for it, I wouldnt do it.

This is just to test the procede back end flash and the procede 5.5 tuning software and maps. Once I get this working I will install the flex fuel sensor. If the logs come out ok and it feels right, I will install my Walbro 455 (I think that's it) and up it to E30, Log, E50, Log, E60, Log and then E85. I imagine at some point in there I will be installing a new clutch. |

I use this calculator which you can download. The 135i fuel tank is 53L Every car is different so make sure to log and see that your car is happy with that mix. |

Nah will probably just keep the Vishnu back end flash and the new Flex Fuel Beta maps in the Procede.
Not sure how a 'protune' would go since in my opinion the procede does the e85 changes in a linear fashion and its not actually linear. I am assuming the 'fat' built into the base tune that makes it safe for all cars is what they rely on to account for the fact it isn't a linear calculation. I could get a pro tune for e85, but the whole point is flex fuel. |
