Service engine soon light came on with 03/01/2013

Does this mean that i need to take my car in for routine oil and filter change? the service engine soon stopped after the 03-01-13 now the service light just flashes when i start up? Does it have anything to do with an idiot putting 87 octane fuel in my car at the gas station? happened right before the light came on. help sorry newbie here.

Yikes stay away from 87oct….anyways the light could be anything, mine came on Jan 1st and it turned out to just be a state inspection notice that I had already had done, the dealer reset it and I drove off. Take it in and see what the deal is, or if possible pull codes.

service engine soon could be alot of things but if it came on right after you fueled with 87 i would think its related to that. you can get a BMS can tool that hijacks the gauge needles to read out codes for pretty cheap or you can get the bavarian scan tool. the BMS tool pays for itself after one use and ive been using it on my car since i bought it. worth the investment

That same thing happened to me in November. Mine flashed red then yellow then went away.

I drove 45 mins to the closest dealer to find out is was the state inspection sticker which I had already taken care of.

Sort of pissed me off . . . a waste of my time.
