Advice needed with charge pipe install: pipe coming out of OEM chargepipe

Hello,

Was hoping someone here could help me. I was working on changing my charge pipe on my 2008 E82 and found a third pipe coming out of the side.

Does anyone know what it is (in red)? it looks almost OEM...

It's BMW's "sound enhancer". It's supposed to enhance the engine sound in the cabin. Fine to get rid of.

Can confirm. When I switched from stock to my ER pipe, if anything, I can hear the engine better. So... not sure what the "sound enhancer" pipe actually does, if anything.

I don't think its a sound enhancer but a sound suppressor.

um... why do you say that? drove in a friends 335 and mine really makes more whoooosh sounds.

was reading through the ER charge pipe page and apparently is called a sound baffle... lots of sound, but more room for boost leaks and more turbulence. I think they removed it in later designs.
