2010 135I Engine Replacement Information.

Hi Everyone,

I am wondering if all N55B30A engines from other series (ex F30s) fit a 135I E82 Chassis.

Thank you!

Starting from the month February 2010 BMW switched over to N55's from N54's. So Feb builds were mixed. From March onwards... it was only N55. So 2010 model year was a mix of N54 and N55's. But mostly N54's.

You search by your VIN(or build date) to see which engine you have.

To answer the OP's question... I believe all N54's are the same... except for one of the turbo housing is slightly smaller to clear the 1er's bumper rails. I think its the forward turbo(housing) that's different. The turbo's internals are the same(from what I have read).

So a engine from a 335i should fit fine.. you just will need to reuse one of the turbos from your old engine.

Someone on n54 tech replaced his e series n55 with an f series n55. There were a couple of items he had to reuse from his old n55 motor, but that's it. I suggest you look on n54 tech and find the thread.

I was also under the impression that you could get a 2010 with an N55, but I've worked on thousands of cars and never seen it. At least in the U.S.. A car could have a 2010 production date, but be marked with the 2011 model year designation. Can't find any real confirmation that there is a 2010 N55 135i, would love to see someone post one.

Registered September 2010.

Definitely produced, if not delivered to the US. This one's confirmed as an N55 by punching in the registration number into https://www.bmw-warranty.co.uk/BMW/CarDetails/Index

Mine is a 2010 car with N55 and DCT.

You'll have to swap over some parts from your old engine but the rest should work. F cars run 8 rib pulleys, electric power steering and use a different HPFP so you'll need a different power take off from the vacuum pump. The later ones also use electric wastegates rather than the older pneumatic/vacuum ones so check the rocker cover to make sure it has the inbuilt vacuum reservoir. I cant remember if they all have it or not...
