I have a rattling noise coming from the passenger side door, it does it every other time when i am on road when i hit a bump, it drives me insane because it seems like it is coming from the inside of the door, idk what to do i told bmw but i guess they just didnt feel like doing it when i took it in for servicing. I get pops in the passenger dash area which I thought was from the HVAC when it is left in auto recirculate mode. Mine is definitely not related to the suspension. Try searching other passenger dash pop threads.

mine sounds exactly the same. there's like a million threads about this, no one has been able to fix it as far as i know...
it's due to thermal expansion i'm pretty sure. NEVER got it when it was under 68 degrees here. try leaving your car in the sun for a while, then when you drive off keep the AC off (windows down so you don't die). you'll see how it will not pop |

Popping Noise in Dash
Breathing some life into the thread. I have the same popping noise from the right side of the dash. It is worse with heat and the AC. It pops 3 to 4 times on each side. Sounds like a rock or something hits the car. In reading the threads, people seem to only have it happen 1 time, but mine is much worse. I have my final visit this Wed the 15th with a BMW engineer and if not solved I get a replacement, repurchase or hopefully trade assist. The dealer has replaced the A-pillars, taken the dash apart and put felt everywhere, but still pops everyday. It sounds as if it comes from the dash, but the dealer checked the suspension and all is well. I read on another thread it was the HVAC door, windshield and even got the advice to ignore the noise. Hopefully it will be fixed or replaced.

I bet it is a component that is just slightly out of spec and probably looks fine on inspection. Please post if you find anything! |

I have read many posts about this issue and thought my car was free and clear! Not so fast...I have heard the popping sound three times since the temps have been higher. I dont believe it is related to the AC (on) as it has popped with the windows down and AC off. The knocking sound only occurs when I hit a bump in the road, not every bump, large or small, no rhyme or reason. Damn!

Mine got fixed. Dealership detected the noise, tore the whole dash apart, and then put it back piece by piece while testing. 90 degree weather helped out. They couldn't determine what was causing the noise but they put in a bunch of insulating felt strips (didn't quite understand what that is). Anyway, noise is gone and I'm happy now . Took a week for the to do this
