BMW M-Power tour on 10/16-17 and 10/23-24 - anyone going?

I'm registered for the 16th - 11am for a 2011 M3 DCT...let's see what's what...

Just wondering if any other 1addicts were invited/registered/attending?

Hey Frank. Wow I completely missed the part of the email saying it takes place on Oct. 16-17th too. I thought it was only the weekend after and I can't make it then.

But I also signed up for the 16th at 11am for the M3. I guess I'll see you there. Hopefully some other 1ers can make it.

I think you have to get an email from BMW. I just found it in my inbox saying you're invited to test drive the M3, X5M, or X6M. I have no idea what email list I"m on nor do I remember every signing up for it.

25 and up....meh, you're not missing THAT much...it'd be a cool event if we got to drive the current M5/6 Alpina B7 too...I'm just using this excuse to drive an M3 without being pressured to buy one.

That's definitely not my problem. I think my dealer's just an idiot as I never get emails from BMW.

Last year it was at the Forbes estate in NJ. By mid-day the cops were sitting on the route.

Mine was by snail mail but you need a registration code too which is unique to the recipient.

Got the invite, but not sure if it's going to be worth the hour+ drive to get there...

Yes but the difference is, we all sat down for a 30 min presentation on current M-vehicles in production and had a Q&A session with the M-brand manager for BMWNA, all received a free BMW lanyard/M baseball cap/brochures and an unsolicited test-drive, no salesman, 20-30min on a mix of highway and twisty 2-way country roads by ourselves.

It was worth it to me and I got to see whether I'd still like my 135 after the M3, which I still did. The M3 was nice, but imo not worth the upgrade from my 1.

BTW, I did catch up with fellow 1er davidjbak at the event and I saw a brand new blue water 128 vert in the lot when I was leaving.

Hey Frank it was good seeing you again. Like you I thought the drive up was worth it. Getting the free hats and lanyard was a nice bonus. Good thing you were there so I had someone to follow on my test drive since I suck with directions haha.

I'll admit the M3 is a seriously good car. There is no comparison between the M3 and the 135i and in all reality there shouldn't be. It costs almost 15-20k more base price to base price and with all that you get a more luxurious interior, the amazing V8, and the suspension parts.

The sound of the V8 was absolutely intoxicating especially with M mode on and when you hear blip when the M-DCT is downshifting. The handling was also very good and pretty flat through corners. It was also pretty quiet inside while cruising but when you get on the gas will definitely hear the V8. It is pretty cool how the car can feel very tame and then just become very aggressive.

But like Frank said it's not enough to make me want to trade in my 135i. Going home I realized how nice it is to have all that torque and not having to downshift from 6th gear when having to pass on the highway 95% of the time. The 135i also feels more nimble but obviously not as planted as the M3. But spend like 5k to get some suspension parts and tune and the 135i becomes a completely different car.
