Hard wiring a radar detector

So i have a few questions that I can't seem to find an answer to.
I have a passport escort 9500ix and I want to mount it on my windshield right above my dash. I know a lot of people put their radar detectors up near their rear view mirror and hard wire it to the wire for the sun roof. is there something a bit more convenient to tap into around the dash? I've seen a couple people use a fuse looking connector thing to hard wire but i'm not exactly sure how to do that. any information would be helpful. thanks.

I have an E88 so no sunroof. I took off the front header panel and passenger-side a-pillar. I ran the wire to the fuse box that way. I used an ATM add-on fuse and used location #8. Everything works perfectly.

I've had it like this for 2.5 years now and never a single problem.

I picked up a hardwire kit for my escort 8500 x50 for $16. I'll use that like when I install it. Thanks.

Confirming MuNkY6913's method. Run a separate line for the radar detector, don't tap off of anything. Wire behind the glove box with an add on fuse. Works great.

I've had my V1 hooked up that way, run up the side a-piller and around the headliner to the top right side of the rearview since I bought the car in 2009. Works perfectly every time.

Yea, I did something similar, but I have mine resting on top of the information center on the dash. Have had zero issues with this.

I bought the mirror tap which inserts in the factory housing behind the plastic mirror shroud, but trying to find the colors of the wires to tap for it. Car is 2012 BMW 135i and the radar is a Valentine1.

Just look at the DIY section on hard wiring a V1. You can run it along the headliner and down the side pillar and into your fuse box. I used the DIY and took my time. Get an ADD a fuse from auto parts store. It's easy and very clean looking, wish i did it years ago.

Edit: Just found a post. Can anyone confirm:

Brown/Black = Ground
Brown/Green = 12V switched

Mirror Tap is designed to plug into the wiring in the mirror (no running down the A-pillar). I am trying to confirm the colors of the wire for the 12v switch and the ground.

Here is a link to the Mirror Taphttp://www.mirrortap.com

Wire colors are correct for 2012 BMW 135i & 2014 BMW 435i

We used the MT-4015 to have some extra cord as one was on a visor clip (planning to change) and not have to pull on it to hook up. I recommend the longer one.
