Soaking wet carpet.

The passenger side carpet in our two week old 128i is soaking wet. Not sure if it is from a clogged A/C condensate drain or from leak and the recent downpours.

Ideas?

Take it back to the dealer while the carpet is still wet. Leaks are hard to trace, let them spend the time.

I am in Germany on ED and will drop it off on Tuesday for reshipment to the US. I may not have time to get a local dealer to look at it.

I would wait and have a US Dealer find the leak.

Why not take it back to the factory, and hand them your keys? They make give you a brand new car, given your time frame, having to come back to the States! It does not hurt to try....
Good luck

I don't think so. Once you accept the car at the factory, they are not going to take it back, or make a new one for you on the spot. It is up to post sales dealer service.

On a previous car I had a leak from a seal around one of the floor vents. The carpet was always wet in the passenger side.

All it took was a a few minutes for the dealer to reseal the vent, and then wash the carpet for me, and I had no further issues.

Hope its something similar...good luck.

I had lots of experience with wet carpets in BMWs. Mostly it was bad moisture barriers in the door, water that's suppose to flow outside falls on your interior sill and settles on the carpet, this usually tends to settle in the rear floor however. For a newer car, yes I've had dealer improperly prep and fail to remove the A/C drain plug.

The most important thing is to get it as dry as possible ASAP!!!!! The floor insulation on BMWs is fairly thick, you'll NEVER absorb all the moister without removing the carpet and padding. My dealers have always offered to do this for me, leave it disassembled, windows open and fan blowing overnight. I failed to do this the first few times in my E30....I had musty mold smell and allergy problems from then on.

This is obviously either a factory or prep center error. I'd get that fixed and dried good before it's wax-sealed for the multi-week trip to U.S. delivery. My advice...INSIST it's taken care of before it's shipped!!!!
