Not on the 1M, but on previous cars for sure. It seemed it was always something suspension related in the front, wheel bearing, bushing, etc.
Hope its resolved quick. |

After 8,800 miles, I found that the bolt fastening my right side upper control arm had loosened. Tightened it up and the real annoying noise/vibration I had been experiencing over small bumps was gone.

If you're willing to get your hands just a bit dirty, I'd strongly suggest you do a simple bolt check.
Again, in my case it was a single bolt that needed about 1/2 - 3/4 turn and all is now well. Neil |

I've got this noise too, just seems to happen if one wheel drops into a pot hole with some lock on. Can be felt through the steering wheel as well. Is it worth a mention to the dealer or is the concensus it's normal, big tyres, stiff springs etc ?
I wondered if tightening up the bolt for the control arm would sort it as MDORPHN describes ? Cheers Pete. |

Reply from BMW
The Technical Dept has completed a series of tests on 2 BMW 1 Series M Coupe models.
The front suspension and steering was examined and whilst there was no evidence of a component defect, the resonance that has been described in our technical communication to BMW regarding your vehicle was also found to be present on both vehicles during test. Due to the fact this vehicle is a motor sport model with a completely different suspension to that of a standard coupe, no further repair action has been currently recommended as the vehicle appears to function within the criteria of the model range. We shall however update you should we be advised of any further enhancements to you car. |
