New to the forum (not to the area - Germany)

Hey guys,

Name is Steve and ive been at Ramstein for 3 years. I'm sure ive met some of you in passing, but nothing more than formal greetings.

Should be taking delivery of my 2012 135i within the next two weeks. Build date started yesterday. It's been the longest 6wks of my life it seems.

You may have seen me around. Use to drive a 2008 Red VW GTI. Did a lot with it, and threw way too much money into it, but i just recently sold it and wanted to move on to something 'better'.

I have no plans at all to mod it (i know, famous last words), im saving that for my 83 VW Golf that ive been slowly restoring.

Excellent welcome aboard. I'm on Ramstein myself and I think I have seen your V-Dub.

Nice carbs. A good friend of mine had 44 Mikuni carbs on his "built" 1.9L Scirocco I. Had something like 160 Hp and that car was very light. He always use to take those Mustang boys at the T-lights.

Yea... my friend had some high lift camshaft too(from euro race parts 288' sounds right). His engine started out as a 1.6L factory motor. Then he kept mod'ing it. It grew to 82mm pistons and an offset grind crank(88mm I think). Then he had put NOS on it and had a back fire... he then melted a piston so he went with 83.5mm pistons and that 88mm crank. I think that gave him 1868cc of engine. He had put a GTi (4K ?) gearbox in it too. I just remember his car was fast! Always 15.0 flat or 15.2's in the quarter at 92 mph. And he never had enough money to put a quaife in there! lol

That car was his pride and joy until his wife made him get rid of it. women.

sounds like it was a nice lil beast.. damn the women for making us stop what we enjoy doing.

currently i have a 020 gearbox but the one with longer gears. not really ideal for my setup, except for higher top end speed. looking at sourcing the lower gears version and swapping in a 5th gear from a TDI, that way i can hammer thru 1-3rd, push 4th and have a nice long steady climb in 5th.

i actually just got done working a lil bit on it today. finally got my new rims in.

15x7 porsche phone dials.

and, to kinda throw fuel on the fire, and make the wife just a tad bit more mad at me with my obsession.. i got talked into a mk1 jetta that im probably going to pick up too.

The only V-Dub I've had was a 1968 Bug in high school. Built it upto a 2110cc for a while and had all sorts of goodies from dual 42 webers carbs to front disk brakes.

I had a '10 Jetta TDI. Great car overall. But, not RWD and she ran out of breath going up hill at 115.....Jeez I am spoiled

I drove it for 14 months then sold it for what I bought it for nothing like driving for free
