OEM Black wheel option?

I'm just curious... was there ever a package or wheel option that had the standard 135i wheels available in black?

I'm test driving and looking at a Silver 135i with M-sport package tomorrow (a 2010 model) and it has the standard 5-star wheels in black, instead of the M-sport wheels that would usually come with that package. I have a 2010 brochure and don't see any colored wheel options shown so am assuming this was something done by previous owner.

I'm just hoping if he had it painted it was done professionally.

Correct, these were painted after the fact....have a good close look at them to assess the quality of the work. Worst case there are always used sets available if these are not to your taste.

Good luck!

The Style 261 wheels were actually available from BMW in a gloss black and ferric gray, at least as an accessory wheel (i.e., not sold with the vehicle). These may have been only available in Europe, but I feel like they were sold here for a short time - IIRC, they were released around the same time as the LCI, so MY2012 I think?

That said, it's very likely that the wheels were painted or powder coated by the owner, but theoretically it's OEM.

I've only seen the ferric gray wheels over here. Never heard of black painted ones. Doesn't mean they don't(didn't) exist/offer them.

I couldn't find the black ones when I checked RealOEM, either. But I do recall seeing them for sale at one time, and the pics above are BMW promo pics.

Actually the black 261's are part number 36116786887 and sold at GetBMWParts (and likely your dealers parts counter as well). I think the Ferric Gray ones are the Euro-only part.

That explains why I couldn't find them on RealOEM! They look awfully similar, and I've never heard of that Style before, nor seen them in regular silver. But I see now that they are indeed different - for one thing, the lug holes are placed much differently!

In any case, I think they were still released as part of the LCI.
