Wow, alot miles! Only one brake pad/rotor change?

I have question about extended maintenance warranty.

I got my 128i coupe on Sept, 08. Now it has 40,000 miles closing to the end of warranty.
It's my DD car, about 60 miles round trip per day, about 15000 miles each year (first 3000 miles was in Europe during ED).

Since most of my driving are on highway, so every time the car reaches 15000 miles interval, car computer still says about 3000 miles to go for next oil change. So I always got an annual oil change, then after about 3000 miles (not allow to re-set computer if oil change was done based on time not condition.), another oil change based on notice from on-board computer.

I was thinking to purchase extended maintenance warranty to 6year/100k miles (for me, 6 year will hit first) because the cost of brake pad/rotor change.

In your case, your first brake change happened at more than 100k miles? Without that cost, I counted about $1000 (before 100k) based on your data from standard warranty got expired to about 100k miles.

What's your opinion on extended maintenance warranty? I'm not a DIY guy.
Also, how about extended power train warranty (not maintenance warranty)?

to the OP and others who have replaced your tires with non rfts. What kind of 'system' did you go with to accompany your non runflats in case of flats/leaks and how's it working out?

I carry my small autox compressor in the trunk with a can of fixaflat.

I had to use it once when I cracked my wheel and they got me home.

Ive been on regular tires for the better part of 3 years

Ive read that the fixaflat stuff screws up the TPMS sensors.Did you get rid of the TPMS sensors when you went to non runflats?

Nope. Just reused the old ones when I switched.

and on the can it says TPMS safe and mine havent had any issues since then.

It's good to see that BMW hasn't hassled you at all about the HPFP warranty. (Though I wonder how much the HPFP change will cost out of warranty?)

Wow, just rolled 100k on my `03 ZHP. Fuel pump just went out a month (or so) ago, alternator died while under extended warranty. Other than that, she's still truckin...

95 525 sold at 220k, replaced guibo, shocks, water pump and radiator. Still running a 97 328is at 218k, replaced the water pump and raditor. No fuel pump issues.

I would have taken my 525 to 500k but I don't have enough space. I usually buy Bimmers at least 5+years old and 80k+ miles and do all repairs and maintenance myself. If you don't know how to do the simple repairs you simply get robbed.

But, after owning one of my cars for 10yrs and nearly 140k miles, I wouldn't consider any car with 100k miles.
Driven at an average mileage of 12k miles that puts a 100k car at over 9yrs old. There are many things that need to be done with a car at that age; suspension, fuel lines, brake lines, along with engine mechanicals like water pumps, alternators, cooling system, AC, etc... Things deteriorate with time even if the engine is still running.
It's less of an issue if you've owned the car since new as you can keep with the maintenance over the years and you know what has and has not been done. But, buying someone else's over 100k car, especially 150k as one poster suggested, forget it.
You'll be sinking a lot of money into an old car just to get it where it needs to be.

For me the only car worth that effort is one that is classic and may one day be worth something. A 135i? Maybe, years from now.
But, to worry or be concerned about what a subsequent owner may need to deal with after 150k, I frankly don't care.
Anyone wanting to get a car with that many miles takes on whatever he finds, and he should expect to put a good bit of time and money in to it.

When I sold my 1990 Mits/Plymouth turbo, it was 10yrs old and had nearly 140k miles. The engine ran well, but the suspension needed a redo, full brakes including calipers and lines, the trans rebuild at 90k was done so a newer trans plus it's rebuild would be needed. Interior needed reconditioning, unless one likes the smell of an old car. All that plus an exterior that needed rust and some lower panel filling, along with a new paint job. Old cars a lot of work. It's more a labor of love.
if one needs inexpensive transportation, there are much better lower mileage and less costly alternatives.

+1, Changing oil every 15,000 miles does not and never will make sense to me. No matter how good the oil is it breaks down and changing it 5K makes way more sense to me.
