Cool Is the 135i 0-60 time really 4.8 seconds?

If so, thats faasst. See what cars the 135i is faster than...

Notably:

In their first test, Motor Trend pulled 4.7. With the auto.

And yeah, that's fast.

In BMW model literature (US), the 135i is 5.1 and the Z4 M Coupe is 4.9. BMW Germany shows the 135i is 5.3 (0 to 62).

Keep in mind most adjust times to climatic conditions. So numbers posted don't always equal the actual times.

Would have liked to have seen quarter mile times as 60 mph isn't really much of a measurement, especially for cars geared to stretch their legs a little more.

On a drag strip, with rollout? Yes, they probably got 4.7 seconds to 60 MPH.

Will you get to 60 MPH in your 135i from a stoplight in normal traffic in 4.7 seconds? Probably not. At least, not stock.

See here (scroll down to "A Few Words About Rollout") for more info.

Wow, pretty interesting link. It really goes to show you how 0-60 doesn't really matter as much as it used to.

If you notice, all those cars listed do 0-60 in 6.9 sec or less... Sports cars of 15-20 years ago I remember used to proclaim their 0-60 in 6 and 7 sec range as fast, now a Volvo can do it!

Just a note but the factory times are estimates and account for lugguage and a full tank of gas.

Did anyone take notice of the 2009 BMW Z6 and 2010 BMW Z9 data?

In some of the more recent reviews I've seen it closer to 5.2 0-60 . I wonder if that is just the driver or perhpas the dreaded 29.2 lag in more recent reviews. All of the early reviews were 4.7-4.8 but if you find reviews done in the past couple of months they all seem to be in that 5.2 range.

It's most likely just differences in the test methods. Some magazines use roll out, some don't.

Yeah, I think 5.2 seconds to 60 MPH is probably a realistic figure for Joe Average stomping on the accelerator in his 135i at a stop light with a full tank of gas, no track prep or anything.

car and driver got a 4.7 with a manual http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...take_road_test

apparently the auto is just as quick:
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...est/index.html

edmunds got 5.0 for the 135, while only managing a 5.2 with the 335 on the same day, same driver. So whatever you think the 335 0-60 is, the 135 will be 0.2 faster, on average.

here's a video of a 135i racing an m3: **************************car-videos-08...BMW-M3-E92.htm

the fastest i've gotten with my car has been a 5.2 (tested with a g-timer), but that was with no launch whatsover, just by flooring it. I didn't want to kill the tranny. So with any launch, i'm sure the car can do 5 secs or under even in the average joe's hands.

i have an accelerometer in my car and i got a 4.829 in the car bone stock in 85 F heat on just a flat road. It was measured by a g-tech SS.

Its definitely possible to to go sub 5 in a 135.

That's very cool! Can you elaborate on the accelerometer?

To the OP, the actual number for 0-60 is hard to pin down, but you can FEEL the car's capabilities in comparison to others. When I drive my 911 Carrera S, I can feel that it is faster than the 135i, but for me the 135i is fast enough, regardless of the actual numbers. It is fast enough to still give that exhilerating sensation (slight adrenaline rush) I like when I stomp on it. (which I rarely do, of course... LOL!)

For me, the hard numbers are important, but even more important is the way the car feels when I go full bore... and the 135i never disappoints!

yes i can. Its called a g-tech SS (http://www.gtechpro.com). Its a pretty tight accelerometer. It measures lateral, acceleration, and braking G-forces. along with 0-20-40-60-100mph, 1/8 mile, 1/4 mile and with a proper RPM sensor, HP and Torque. With the 135i the cigarette jack RPM sensor works ok, but there is to much error in the torque readings. It even stores your run on in the unit so u can compare readings. It displays graphs of all your runs. If like cars and want the numbers to back it up, these units are the way to go.

Hey, thanks, Rustler. And also thanks to Mistermojorizin for his alternative. Those are amazing little devices... and fairly accurate as well, according to the chart.

Leave it to my California friends to come up with the really :w00t: stuff!
