If I calculated correctly, the MSRP on your 330xi is $48,090 with invoice at $44,050. Is that right?
I am going to go on the assumption that your price of $46,000 includes advertising and conveyance fees, and floor mats. If so, your price is $1950 over invoice. By comparison, I was able to get $1725 over invoice in Connecticut including advertising, conveyance, two sets of floors mats, and wheel locks. Also, the dealer agreed to install the alarm at a "discounted" rate of $450. I have seen posts where people were able to get an XI for less than $1950 or even my $1725 over invoice. (You have to somewhat ignore posts about the I models because our market for the XI in CT/NY is different, especially in the winter.) Some of it is skill, some is luck and timing. That said, you definitely can get a better price by at least $225, but likely more if you have time and patience to shop around. And make sure that advertising, conveyance, and floor mats are "built in" to that price, and not extra! Go around offering dealers in the area $45,000 or even less and see who bites. The only thing to remember is that only the dealer you buy from is likely to offer you a loaner car for service, so it's sometimes helpful to buy from a local dealer if loaners are important to you. |

The MSRP on that is $48,090 and dealer invoice is $44,050 He is splitting the difference with you; half way between MRSP and dealer invoice. THAT IS NOT A GOOD DEAL!!! You should try to get $44,550; $500 over dealer invoice.

Do ED and get it for about $1k over ED invoice. You'll get a much better deal especially since your car is highly optioned.

Thanks for your informative response! Yeah, we didn't discuss advertising fees, conveyance fees, wheel locks, and floor mats. I guess I was quite misinformed of the price? We were throwing some numbers around and when I said $46,000 was reasonable for me, he brought it down from ~$48,000. So, I thought it was a pretty good deal. I also thought he included the sales tax, because he asked me where I reside. He inputed my sales tax into his computer and said he could swing $46,000. He even told me what my estimated monthly payments would be (based on what I was going to put down and the estimated interest rate). Geez, how naive I was, thinking that he had already included the sales tax into that $46,000. I thought that was the deal of the century!!! The salesperson wrote out a draft (that long yellow sheet) where you sign the bottom, and I put down $1,000. I didn't give him the gareen light to put the order in yet. At this point, can I still negotiate the price and not disgruntle him to a point where it will be uncomfortable? I really don't want to purchase elsewhere b/c of the convenience factor (loaner car, close proximity)... Sorry for the long post!!!

First you have to go back and make sure that advertising fees, conveyance fees, wheel locks (if you want them), and floor mats are all included, and ALL other fees they may try to include. Then, and only then, can you really look at price.
You can get lower prices, but $500 over invoice in metro NY or CT on an XI is probably not going to happen. But you should try for that, and come as close as possible. Where in NY do you live? Also, I noticed you mentioned an interest rate - you are financing? If so, you probably do NOT want to use dealer financing, since I've heard their interest rates are as high as 7.3% right now for 3 years. Some credit unions are as low as 4.25%, and even Bank of America is 5.54% (3 years) in NY right now. The difference between 5.54% and 7.3% over the course of a loan is HUGE - potentially even more important than the price of the car you agree on! By the way - YES, go back and renegotiate. Use the confusion over sales tax as your "way out" if you need to. Don't worry even for a second if the salesperson becomes disgruntled. He won't care for even a second if he rips you off, you shouldn't care if he gets upset that you're trying to get a fair deal. |

bsjd00, i'm in the white plains area. So, as you can see, Westchester BMW is going to be my best bet as far as convenience goes.
True, true- you're right about him ripping me off. After all, business is business, Its not about making friends... They told me that BMW FS is offering close to 8%! I went to my personal bank yesterday and they told me they were offering 6.45% (depending on your credit score, blah blah...). So, I'm aware of the vast spectrum of interest rates out there- eg www.netbank.com. Thanks for the reply. |

I got 6.4% at the end of Sept. through BMWFS and just re-financed with my local credit union at 5.25%. Try some credit unions in your area. They'll be even cheaper than the banks.

I believe heated seats are included in the ZCW. As for comfort access, I just didn't feel like I'd appreciate what it was capable of doing. I don't mind sticking the key fob in the socket and pressing the start/stop button. As I am typing this, i hear my wife in the background saying "Get the 158's and call it a day!!!"

haha, you guys would be better sales advisors than the one i met yesterday...
I'll revisit the CA option. It seems like its quite popular. My friend recently picked up a 550i and also got the CA. He told me I have to get it as well and it was well worth the price... I'm just still trying to see if I can renegotiate the price I was quoted. I really thought I was given a great deal! $46,000 including tax!?! That's $1,518 UNDER invoice! As I was sitting in front of the SA, I was thinking to myself, "This dude must have had a great night last night or he really likes my wife"... |

Being I'm in Westchester, NY, I don't know if I really have any negotiating leverage. However, when I call my SA tomorrow, I'll ask to reneg the deal b/c of the whole sales tax misunderstanding.

AWDriver, I heard a rumor (on two boards, including this one) that Westchester BMW is actually owned directly by BMW and thus has the best deals. I test drove there (salesperson was Sylvester) but ultimately bought here in CT.
Keep us updated, and good luck. |
